Genshin Impact is being copied a lot.
When it was first released in mid-2020, Genshin Impact was met with a lot of criticism from the public and the media. Many fans and gaming communities who love the Legend of Zelda series immediately discovered many similarities between the blockbuster Breath of the Wild and miHoYo’s Genshin Impact. While Genshin Impact may be inspired by Nintendo’s critically acclaimed title, the overall gameplay of the ARPG is radically different from Link’s adventures. In fact, anyone who has played will see the obvious difference between these two games.
However, Genshin Impact, considered by the gaming community as “learning” ideas from Breath of the Wild, is being blatantly copied by another mobile game. That is The Legend of Neverland – a mobile MMORPG with a look and gameplay similar to 99% of the controversial Genshin Impact in the gaming community. It not only “copy” the combat gameplay system, graphics, characters but also the famous gacha mechanism of miHoYo.
The Legend of Neverland is published by developer GameArk Global in Hong Kong. According to the game’s official page, players can freely switch between characters at any time, combining their attacks and abilities. If that’s not enough, it looks like there will be a little fairy companion that looks inspired by Paimon – the loud-mouthed mascot of Genshin Impact who also appeared in The Legend of Neverland.
Senior analyst at Niko Partners Daniel Ahmad posted his findings on Twitter, where he claimed that The Legend of Neverland blatantly copied Genshin Impact using maps, gameplay, graphics, characters , design, and other mechanisms used in Genshin. Even The Legend of Neverland’s ads are 1:1 with Genshin Impact. Daniel also points out that one of the characters in The Legend of Neverland bears a striking resemblance to Genshin Impact’s character Pyro. He also discovered that areas from Genshin Impact’s Mondstadt region even appear in promotional artwork for The Legend of Neverland.
Whether miHoYo takes action on this new game or not, it certainly won’t be the first time a mobile game is trying to “copy” another popular game.
