US-based organization 100 Thieves has just confirmed its plans to retire from Counter-Strike: Global Offensive esports.
In a video posted on Twitter, Matthew “Nadeshot” Haag – CEO and founder of the organization explained this decision. The “uncertainty, darkness and uncertainty” in CSGO at the moment, along with the fact that the biggest tournaments are only held in Europe while the team is based in Los Angeles, making it impossible for them to move around. The main factor that leads the organization to make the final decision.

“What is happening in CSGO is that the game is slowly migrating to Europe. We talked to the players about the solution… The members did their best to bring about the desired result. Unfortunately, we’re just a little short. Even if the team wants to change the roster, the team still has big hurdles ahead. Given the current mechanics and scoring system for the qualifiers and for the Majors, any roster change will adversely affect our chances of making it to the Major. And that was a big hit.”
Nadeshot explained that 100 Thieves “didn’t want to get in the way” of their players’ success and that they couldn’t support the members if they decided to go to Europe, so the organization was talking to parties to find a “better home” “. A place that will give members “everything 100 Thieves can’t do right now.”
“Ultimately we believe that the success of our players, whether they play for us now or in the future, remains the number one focus of the organization,” he said. “Their presence in Europe with other organizations is the best we can find.”
IEM New York will be the last tournament this Australian CSGO squad competes under 100 Thieves. The team joined 100 Thieves from Renegades in October 2019, just weeks after reaching the semi-finals of the StarLadder Major.
The team then also reached the final of IEM Beijing, the first event in which they competed for 100 Thieves. Since then, their results have not been very positive, especially at the time when the Covid epidemic began. 100 Thieves has been outside the top 10 of the HLTV charts for the past five months, and worst of all, the top 20 in September.
Questions about the team’s future were raised after it was reported that Complexity was about to successfully recruit Justin “jks” Savage, star of 100 Thieves. This news comes two weeks after team coach Chet “Chet” Singh decided to jump to VALORANT.
Nadeshot does not rule out the possibility of 100 Thieves returning to Counter-Strike esports with “a different lineup” if the situation changes. The Australian players are the second CS lineup of 100 Thieves after a failed test with the Brazilian squad, with core members from Immortal (2nd place PGL Major Krakow 2017).
