The setting in Barotrauma is set in the distant future, when the earth is no longer suitable for humans. Humanity had to find a way to go into space in search of new lands. A moon of Jupiter called Europa is the chosen place for humans to live in the space age.
Unlike Earth, humans cannot survive on Europa’s surface. Instead, we must settle in submarines, diving under the thick ice of this new land. Beneath the ice is the vast ocean, used as a transportation system, transporting goods between the colonies, and an invaluable resource. The ocean also created transport axes that connected many colonies across Europa.
The ocean also became a new habitat for many sea creatures and a natural cave system was formed from it. It is here that there will be a fierce battle for survival between people, nature and the mysterious creatures of Europa.
The game has two main modes: single player and co-op. In story mode, you will explore alone and try to find a way to survive in Europa’s ocean. Co-op mode allows you to do this with 15 other players. With a total of 16 players in multiplayer mode, you can choose to work together to survive or fight to find the last survivor.
