The Witcher movie will have a prequel that reveals the origin of the first Witcher

After the huge success of the series The Witcherrecently Netflix just announced a new project set in the same universe as The Witcher: Blood Origin. The film will be set in a fantasy world 1200 years before Geralt of Rivia. Blood Origin is a 6-part series and is a prequel to The Witcher series.​

The film will hint at the origins of the first Witcher and the events leading up to the Conjunction of Spheres, which opens the portal between the worlds, bringing in monsters:

According to Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, this is an interesting challenge to expand the universe created by Andrej Snapkowski, enrich the legendary world, the audience can see many new characters. The Witcher: Blood Origin will help fans understand more about the Elven world before humans appeared, about the civilization before it fell and more importantly, reveal the forgotten past of the first Witcher.​

It is known that the film will start filming in the UK, temporarily there is no cast list as well as an official broadcast date. Declan de Barra and Lauren Schmidt Hissrich will serve as executive producers on this prequel project. The Witcher, the movie by Henry Cavill Starring is the 2nd most watched movie on Netflix in 2019 with 76 million views globally in the first 4 weeks.
