Tarrare is known as the man who never stops hungry, he can eat anything, even trash and human flesh. Born in France in 1772, Tarrare faced a terrible appetite from an early age and by the time he was a young man, he was able to eat a quarter of a cow, weighing as much as his body. , in just one day. His parents could not afford to provide enough food for Tarrare, so he ended up running away from home.

For a time, he wandered around France as a member of a gang of thieves and prostitutes. Tarrare begs, even stealing anything he can. Finally, he devised a way to attract and make money from tourists by performing acts of eating rocks, eating cork and even animals living on the street. Tarrare even swallowed a large basket of apples, one after another.

Despite eating so much, Tarrare’s body still looks completely normal. He was of average height and a slim build, but his mouth was unusually wide and his body odor was unbearable. The body odor will be even stronger when he eats, one can even see the vapor rising from him. When hungry, the skin around the belly becomes flabby, long enough to wrap around the waist while eating, it will stretch like a big ball. His cheeks, when stretched out, can hold 12 large apples.

Tarrare had joined the French Revolutionary Army but even four times the rations were not enough to satisfy his endless hunger. Because he is so hungry, he can eat anything he can find in the gutter or in the garbage. But all was not enough, he ended up in the hospital because of exhaustion. In the hospital, Tarrare was tested by doctors for his appetite and as a result, he was able to eat the meals of 15 people at once, including live cats, live snakes, live lizards, live puppies and swallow an eel without chewing. With live animals, this guy will use his teeth to rip open the belly and eat the meat from the inside out, then vomit hair and skin.

Also because of this strange disease, he is used by the military to do very special jobs. Like a courier, Tarrare was to be swallowed with a wooden box containing a top secret document, which was later retrieved along with his excrement. After his first successful test, he was rewarded with a wheelbarrow filled with the lungs and liver of a nearly 14kg bull. Tarrare quickly devoured it right in front of the soldiers.

However, when he was officially on duty, he was captured and tortured by the Prussian army. They chained Tarrare in the toilet for 30 hours, finally finding the wooden box. The Prussian general at the time was furious when the classified document turned out to be a “fake” designed as a test for Tarrare. Tarrare was then put on the gallows, but at the last moment, the general decided to beat Tarrare a battle of life and death and then released him to self-destruct.

Desperate, Tarrare then agreed to any treatment that would help control his hunger, but it failed. He would sneak out of the hospital and eat offal discarded outside butcher shops, even fighting with stray dogs in the alleys. He was caught trying to drink the blood of patients and was even kicked out of the morgue because he intended to eat the corpses there to satisfy his hunger. After a 14-month-old child suddenly disappears, Tarrare is the first suspect and he is kicked out of the hospital for good.

Tarrare died four years later of tuberculosis. During the autopsy, it was discovered that his esophagus was exceptionally large, like an unusually large stomach, taking up most of the abdominal cavity. After all, Tarrare is also a pitiful person, because of the torture of hunger, he became an inhumane person.

Leonarda Cianciulli

Leonarda Cianciulli is an Italian serial killer, known by the nickname “The Soap Maker of Correggio”. She murdered three women in Correggio between 1939 and 1940 and turned their bodies into soap.

Cianciulli was born in Montella. While still a young girl, Cianciulli attempted suicide twice but failed. In 1917, she married Raffaele Pansardi, an office worker, but her parents disagreed because they liked another man. The couple moved to the town of Lauria, where her husband was living, in 1921 and it was here that she was convicted of fraud and sentenced to prison in 1927. Upon release, the couple moved to Lacedonia but the throne The house was again destroyed by an earthquake in 1930. They later moved to Correggio, where Leonarda opened a small shop and was loved for her kindness and gentleness.

Leonarda was pregnant a total of 17 times but had 3 stillbirths, 10 others were stillborn, so with the lucky children still alive, she was very dear. The fear of losing a child grew when in a fortune-telling, the teacher said that she would get married and have children, but none of those children could live. Reportedly, Leonarda then went to see another physiognomy teacher and was told like this: “I see on your right hand a prison, on the left hand a madhouse for criminals.” Leonarda was a superstitious woman and she seemed to believe these warnings a lot.

In 1939, Leonarda heard that her eldest son, Giuseppe, would join the Italian army to serve in World War II. Giuseppe was her favorite child, so she was determined to protect him at all costs. Leonarda believes that in order for Giuseppe to be safe, someone else must die. Her target was 3 middle-aged women, all neighbors.

According to some accounts, Leonarda Cianciulli herself was a fortune teller and these women came to her for help. Whatever the reason, Leonarda had already started planning to kill these three people. The first victim – Faustina Setti – is an unlucky person in love, looking for a good husband. Leonarda tells her about the perfect man in Pola but forces her to keep it a secret. She also persuaded Setti to write letters and send postcards to relatives and friends to say that everything was fine.

On the day of their arrival in Pola, Setti visited Leonarda for the last time, Leonarda offered her a glass of wine laced with anesthetic, then killed her with an ax and hid Setti’s body in a cupboard. There, she cut the body into nine parts, collecting the blood in a basin. In her memoir, Leonarda described exactly what happened: “I threw the pieces of meat into a basin, added 7kg of pre-purchased caustic soda to make soap, and stirred the mixture until they were mixed. melted together to form a thick paste. I poured it into a bucket and dumped it all in a nearby septic tank. The blood in the pot is then frozen, put in the oven to dry, puree and then mix with flour, sugar, chocolate, milk, eggs, margarine and knead all the ingredients together. I made a lot of crispy tea cakes and served them to visiting ladies. Both me and Giuseppe ate them.”

Francesca Soavi is the second victim. Leonarda Cianciulli claims to have found Soavi a job at a girls’ school in Piacenza. Like Setti, Soavi was persuaded to write letters to friends to make sure she was okay. Before leaving, Soavi visited Leonarda as usual and was also drugged and killed with an ax. The murder happened on September 5, 1940, Soavi’s body was treated exactly like Setti’s.

The final victim was Virginia Cacioppo, a former La Scala singer. As for her, Leonarda said he found her a secretarial job in Florence, the same method as the previous two victims. Cacioppo was also asked not to say a word. On September 30, 1940, she visited Leonarda Cianciulli and was also killed.

Cacioppo’s sister-in-law began to suspect her sudden disappearance when she was last seen entering Leonarda Cianciulli’s home. She reported the situation to the police chief in Reggio Emilia, who conducted an investigation and subsequently arrested Leonarda Cianciulli. Leonarda Cianciulli immediately confessed to the murders and provided details of what she did. Leonarda was sentenced to 30 years in prison and 3 years in a mental institution for criminals. In the end, Leonarda Cianciulli died of cerebral palsy in a female criminal’s shelter on October 15, 1970. Several artifacts from the case, including the cooking pot of the victims, are on display at the Bao. Criminology Museum in Rome.
