After Sony officially confirmed the launch date of PlayStation 5 in November next year, we no longer have any doubts about the development progress of the machine. In addition, a dev kit for developers has been confirmed. That means Sony’s partner studios have a sample PS5 in their office.
Studios certainly don’t dare to reveal information about PS5 because of possible breach of contract, but an image of what is believed to be a PlayStation 5 dev kit has been leaked online. Not surprisingly, this prototype looks very similar to the one that Sony has licensed and is considered one of the PS5 betas.
YouTuber ZoneofTech added a PS5 dev kit image in his video. ZoneofTech acknowledged that a source sent this PlayStation 5 dev kit image, but did not provide evidence that this is a real image or not.
If this is indeed a PS5 dev kit, then we have something to learn from this image. It seems that the PS5 will support both USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 – the current USB connection standard. It will have a drive, possibly a Blu-ray.
In addition, this image does not have many details about how the PS5 actually works or looks like in reality. Dev kits very rarely look like the sold version, so it would be hard to believe if this design was applied to the final product. The heatsink for the dev kit is used to ensure that the temperature during the test is stable, but Sony will want to have a more user-friendly design when the PS5 hits shelves in November 2020.
Overall, we’re not even sure if this is really a PS5 dev kit. Previously, people had seen digital images when Sony copyrighted this design.
And yet, dev kits are for development purposes only and they are not final configurations, specifications and features. PlayStation 5 certainly won’t be like that and won’t have as many USB ports as that.
