When it comes to what game genre is the hottest right now, nothing beats Battle Royale. Whether it’s Fortnite, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, or even H1Z1, people won’t get bored with this mode.

So how many players account for? Very big. 30% of “PC core gamers” played battle royale games in February 2018, according to the latest report from game market analysis firm NewZoo.

Looking deeper into NewZoo’s numbers, 16.3% of gamers chose Fortnite as their main Battle Royale series, while 14.6% chose PUBG. This is a recent trend, as Fortnite has surpassed PUBG in popularity.

People don’t just play games, they follow them on Twitch and YouTube Gaming. Fortnite totaled 83.3 million hours watched in February between the two platforms, while PUBG reached 57.2 million hours.

When comparing the two games, PUBG is still very popular in China, with 52% of core gamers playing the game in February, while only 1% playing Fortnite. The West is where Fortnite shines, it’s most popular in France, Saudi Arabia, Denmark, Belgium and Sweden.

NewZoo’s report mentions the trend of battle royale games being gradually mobile. When PUBG Mobile reached 22.3 million global downloads in 24 months, while Fortnite on iOS also reached 6.5 million downloads.
