A recent article in the Guardian has exposed the dire situation of Office culture in Rocksteady. In 2018, more than half of the studio’s female employees signed a petition accusing the harassing behavior such as groping, teasing, disparaging attitudes towards the transgender community and inappropriate comments in the workplace.
While Rocksteady tried to remedy the situation with an hour-long conference, a female employee passed the complaint to the Guardian, claiming that the culture at the studio has not changed over the years. This person points out that Rocksteady’s products are indicative of the studio’s current problem.
She mentioned the exaggerated design of the female characters in Arkham gamesespecially Catwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn. Earlier there was a debate by critics about the gender insults of male NPCs towards Catwoman.
The Guardian article appears to have prompted Rocksteady to reconsider its issue, which often happens when inside company information is made public. In response to the Guardian’s story, Rocksteady made the following comment: “Over the next two years, we carefully listened to and learned from our staff, trying to make sure everyone in the studio was on the same page. In 2020, we will continue to focus on developing the company’s inclusive culture and supporting all of our employees.”
