Change Hearthstone

Client Hearthstone hasn’t really changed much since the game’s launch. Now, fans are calling for this 5-year-old game to be changed.

The Twitter post from professional gamer Pathra Cadness has attracted a lot of attention from the community, and she has come up with many ideas on how to improve Hearthstone. This is clear evidence that the Hearthstone community is ready for change.

One point that Pathra mentioned seems like a good idea, based on community feedback. That is the ability to drag and drop the deck in the Deck Editor of the game. When you select the deck you want to play, your decks are sorted in the order in which they were created. That means if you create a new deck, you have to scroll to the bottom to select it, which is quite annoying.

Usually, players change multiple decks while playing. With the drag select deck feature, and arrange them in any order will make changing decks easier. Although this is only a small change, it will improve the game a lot.

The Hearthstone client hasn’t changed much since the game’s launch. Although it is not a problem, it sometimes makes players uncomfortable and difficult to arrange. PC players sometimes get stuck on the match screen because mobile players lose connection. Part of the reason the client hasn’t made major changes could be that Blizzard needs to fix the client on so many devices (on iOS, Android).

Another point that a lot of players talk about is the new game mode. Pathra came up with the 2v2 idea. It sounds a bit confusing, but other card games have successfully applied 2v2 mode and some even organize tournaments.

Magic the Gathering has a 2v2 mode called Two Headed Giant for players to use their own deck, but share the same amount of health. Yugioh also has a 2v2, derived from an episode of the popular Yugioh anime. Monsters and cards complement each other, and like Magic the Gathering, they also share blood.

While applying 2v2 to Hearthstone would be difficult, that doesn’t mean it’s impossible. Players can use their own deck or share a deck. They can take turns fighting and share the same amount of health. We can have a group system similar to Overwatch for players to join their friends. However, these ideas simply come from the player’s perspective, so they will definitely be difficult to implement from the developer’s perspective. However, the community will be very welcome if there is a 4-player mode.

Another thing that players want more of are the rewards in the game, not just limited to card packs and dust. With games like Fortnite, League of Legends, and Apex Legends, players are constantly receiving decorative items. While Hearthstone has a few Hero avatars in the shop as well as a few special events, they are quite few compared to other games.

A lot of hero avatars in the game now only appear during special events, they no longer happen. Khadgar is one of the coolest avatars in the game and at the time of this writing we have no way of obtaining Khadgar and Blizzard has no plans to share Khadgar in the future. If Hearthstone makes more avatars obtainable in-game like Arthas does, this could create a reason for players to log in and play the game. Not only that, players will actively plow the game to receive decorative items, not just dust and gold.

Other ideas from the community include more card packs and more ways to get them, more solo modes, more rewards for hitting the win milestone. While “easier said than done”, they will definitely bring new life to the game and the community. If Hearthstone adds a Battle Pass to allow players to receive rewards directly from their time spent, it will certainly give old players a reason to return to the game, not just waiting for the new expansion to launch.
