Sony has confirmed it won’t be attending E3 for the second year in a row. In a letter to GamesIndustry.biz, the PlayStation company said it didn’t feel the “vision of E3 2020” aligns with its focus this year.
“After thorough evaluation, SIE (Sony Interactive Entertainment) has decided not to attend E3 2020,” a company representative told GamesIndustry. “We have great respect for ESA as an organization, but the company doesn’t feel the vision for E3 2020 aligns with what we’re focused on this year.”
Instead, Sony will attend “hundreds of global consumer events”. With the PlayStation 5 coming this year, Sony is likely to hold a big press conference just for it, as well as at its State of Play.
Before that, Sony’s withdrawal from E3 last year surprised many people. While publishers like Activision and Electronic Arts have reduced the size of their presence in recent years, not having a presence in major showrooms, Sony’s complete lack of participation clearly shows that many big players are no longer too salty. but with E3.
