Sombra’s Hack skill is about to be nerfed

Although she just received a major skill overhaul, Sombra will receive 2 more changes to her Hack ability in the upcoming Overwatch update.

In a post on the official Overwatch forum, many players listed the problems they had with the hero’s hacking skills. Overwatch developer Geoff Goodman joined the discussion on those issues, and said that Blizzard is testing a variety of changes that will be included in the game in the next patch. Although these changes can be considered nerfs, they are not too heavy so Sombra players do not need to worry too much.

Here is the list of changes:

1. Every time Sombra’s hack is interrupted by damage, it will suffer a 2 second cooldown. With this change, Sombra will have to be more careful in choosing when and who to hack, instead of just pressing the button and waiting for the enemy to miss or reload, etc.
2. Now during the last 0.1 second of the hack, it can’t be canceled due to vision loss or other effects (like Tracer’s recall, Zarya’s bubble, etc.). This time period exists to prevent the ability from being destroyed by very small vision obstructions such as light poles and signs etc. We are removing this time and replacing them with more checks line of sight to make sure that small obstructions are still not a problem. In addition, we also increased the update rate of Sombra’s hack skill to make it more responsive in checking those stopping conditions. All of the above means that you should pay more attention when a hack is aimed at you.

Overwatch characters are constantly being tweaked, and even after an overhaul, the hero can continue to be changed. In fact, Sombra received many changes less than a month ago, and now she is about to receive a few more. Hope these changes give her enough balance and don’t have to edit too much.

The game’s newest character, Brigitte, is still going through a balancing act on the PTR after being introduced a few weeks ago. She will join Overwatch as the game’s first tank support, protecting her teammates and herself with a shield that deals massive damage with her mace while also providing a bit of healing. Luckily, for those planning to try her out, Blizzard has finally announced an official release date. Brigitte will debut in Overwatch next week, March 20.
