From Software’s mysterious project “Shadows Die Twice” was announced at Microsoft’s E3 2018 event. Called Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, it is the next action role-playing game from the studio that created Demon’s Soul, Dark Souls, and Bloodborne. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice quickly feels familiar to those who have played From Software’s previous action games, but it will offer something unique for both new and old fans.
In Sekiro, the player takes on the role of a ninja with a prosthetic arm, nicknamed the “one-armed wolf”. The main character seems to have lost his arm in the trailer, being rescued from the brink of death. There was a high chance that the arm was possessed by a curse.
Based on the trailer, this prosthetic arm is used in a variety of ways. In combat, this arm can transform into various weapons or become a shield when needed. For those who worry that Sekiro will no longer be as challenging as From Software’s previous games, this new trailer will remove that worry. Characters roll, launch and jump around enemies: from cavalry wielding spears to giant snakes. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice seems like just what From Software fans need for the post-Dark Souls era.
Quite surprisingly, it looks like Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will be released by Activision. This news is confirmed in the game’s trailer. From Software’s recent projects, including the Dark Souls series, are all published by Bandai Namco. Sekiro will mark a new era for the From Software studio.
Talking about the cooperation between From Software and Activision, game director Hidetaka Miyazaki said:
Working with Activision on Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice was an extremely enjoyable experience for us. With Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, many members of the From Software team, myself included, are excited to explore the Japanese theme of Sengoku and ninjas for the first time. We can’t wait to let everyone know what the game has to offer.
More information about Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is expected to appear in the next few days. Let’s wait for more game news this June 12 at E3. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice will be released in 2019. Supported platforms have not been announced yet.
