Capcom has just released the sales figures and as expected, Resident Evil stands out in the top 10. However, more surprising, it is Resident Evil 7 that is the best-selling title of this horror series and stands at the top of the list. number two of Capcom’s best-selling games.
According to the latest figures from the studio, four of Capcom’s top five best-selling games are Resident Evil games released this century. From the bottom of the chart we have Resident Evil 2 remake, Resident Evil 6, third place is Resident Evil 5, and Resident Evil 7 is second, selling 7.9 million copies in three years of release. Monster Hunter: World holds the top spot, which isn’t surprising given the RPG’s focus on reaching multiple players.
The interesting point is that Resident Evil 7 not only sold more than its predecessors, but also sold more than the original Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. Resident Evil 2 Remake only lost 700,000 copies compared to Resident Evil 7. Unfortunately, the Resident Evil 3 remake was lower, losing to the original 1996 Resident Evil (ranked 25), which was already in Capcom’s estimate. This ranking already includes ports and re-releases, so the total revenue of the titles will make a lot of difference. That helps the numbers of Resident Evil 7 very impressive because it has yet to be released again.
Overall, the Resident Evil series has surpassed 100 million copies sold since the June period. Meanwhile, Monster Hunter: World now accounts for nearly a third of the sales of the entire RE series. In the future, Capcom plans to launch many major titles and will be available in the market before the end of Q1 2021 (that is, before March 31). At the same time, we now know that the expected release date of Resident Evil Village is in 2021.
