Resident Evil 3: Nemesis Remake was officially announced at PlayStation State of Play on December 10 last year. Although this is the first time we have officially heard about this remake, there have been many rumors and leaks about the game that have surfaced before.
YouTuber SpawnWave was the one to report on Resident Evil 3 at the end of November, and then PlayStation Network showed us the first cover art of Resident Evil 3. When Capcom announced Resident Evil 3, the Japanese developer also showed them. We have a lot of new information. Here’s everything we know about Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, from the trailer, gameplay, release date to the character redesign.
Trailer and Plot
Currently, two trailers have been released, including a game announcement trailer and a video message from the developer.
The trailer announced the presence of the female protagonist Jill Valentine when she was chased by the famous villain in Resident Evil 3, Nemesis. Created to wipe out the members of the STARS (Special Tactics And Rescue Service) squad, Nemesis will return in this remake to make players “wet their pants”.
UBCS (Umbrella Biohazard Countermeasure Service) member Mikhail Victor also appeared briefly, followed by STARS teammate Brad Vickers. In addition, another UBCS member Nikolai Zinoviev and Carlos Oliveira also appear in the trailer.
A clip of Jill muttering while standing in front of a toilet mirror showing her looking like a zombie also appears at the end of the video.
Game Modes
In an interview with Official PlayStation UK magazine, Capcom producer Peter Fabian confirmed Resident Evil 3 will not have a Mercenaries mode. Instead, the game will add an online multiplayer mode called Resident Evil Resistance.
Resident Evil Resistance
Resident Evil Resistance (formerly known as Project Resistance) is a team-playing survival horror mode, with four survivors battling a “Mastermind”. The Mastermind tracks and places dangerous obstacles from the control room while the player tries to get out of the map before time runs out.
Survivors have skills such as healing, hacking, defense and attack that they can use to increase their escape rate.
Mastermind also has some tricks of its own, like the ability to summon zombies, biological weapons, and other mutant creatures.
When does Resident Evil 3 take place?
According to Capcom producer Peter Fabiano, Resident Evil 3 takes place before and after the RE:2 Remake.
“During the early days of the riot, you’ll follow Jill as she fights to survive as the city’s vibrant population turns into an army of zombies.”
Gameplay
The gameplay of Resident Evil 3 first appeared in a video called Special Developer Message. Capcom producers Peter Fabiano and Masachika Kawata speak throughout the video.
Featuring a redesigned Jill Valentine and behind-the-scenes gameplay, gameplay sees her walking the streets of Raccoon City. The residents scattered as Jill left the building.
She then encounters the zombie first, quickly knocking it down with two bullets to her chest.
Unlike the original, Peter Fabiano confirmed Resident Evil 3 Remake will not have many endings.
Resident Evil 3 character redesign
Jill Valentine
Peter Fabiano and Masachika Kawata explain in the video that they are pleased with Jill Valentine’s new design. It reflects Resident Evil 3 Remake’s penchant for action.
Carlos Oliveira
Carlos Oliveira was also changed to have more defects. The producer said they recreated Carlos to suit the brutal setting in Resident Evil 3. And they wanted him to be “Jill’s trusted ally”. Peter Fabiano also confirmed that Carlos will be a playable and interesting character of his own in RE3.
Nemesis
Nemesis also received a design change, adding a nose and several long teeth. The producer said the character will have “more ways to pursue Jill Valentine than Tyrant from Resident Evil 2”.
The realistic look of Nemesis is achieved by photogrammetry technology. The developer created a real-life version of Nemesis and scanned it into the game.
In an interview with Official PlayStation Magazine, Peter Fabiano talks about what the team did to make Nemesis more terrifying.
Nemesis will have smarter AI, similar to Tyrant in RE2, and the ability to walk freely in Raccoon City. Nemesis can wield weapons, making him a threat from a distance.
Achievements in RE2 Remake linked to RE3
A new achievement named Chasing Jill was added in Resident Evil 2 Remake. Its description reads as “Read a letter left behind by Jill”, indicating a connection to Resident Evil 3.
