Thanks to the massive success of Monster Hunter World, Capcom is enjoying a record year. The publisher will continue to strive in the next financial year, when they plan to launch “two big titles” until the end of March, 2019, according to Capcom’s latest financial report. While Capcom didn’t say exactly which game, it’s likely to be a Resident Evil 2 remake that’s been in development for the past few years.
The Resident Evil 2 remake was announced in 2015, but since then, Capcom has shared almost no further information. With that information, it seems fans are waiting too long. And now that Capcom has fully supported the expansion of Resident Evil 7, it looks like the Resident Evil 2 remake could be announced at E3 next month.
Although Capcom hasn’t shared much information about the Resident Evil 2 remake, there are a few leaks that indicate the direction of the game. According to the source, the Resident Evil 2 remake will have some major changes compared to the original, such as removing the dead angle, and switching to using a shoulder-view camera similar to Resident Evil 4, 5, and 6.
Whether this information is accurate or not, we have to wait and see. However, the game has been in development for 3 years now, perhaps fans will know soon. And if the Resident Evil 2 remake is one of the “blockbuster” Capcom alludes to, that means fans can expect it to come out before March 2019. It’s possible the game will aim for a release date of March 2019. January as Resident Evil 7 and Monster Hunter World.
Another possibility is Devil May Cry 5. Devil May Cry 5 rumors have been circulating for months, when the game was expected to appear at PlayStation Experience and The Game Awards, but it didn’t happen. Hideaki Itsuno is rumored to be managing the project and says it’s nearing development soon. Maybe Devil May Cry 5 was also revealed at E3.
Of course, Capcom can also refer to two completely different games with Devil May Cry 5 and Resident Evil 2 remake, but these two names are considered the best candidates. Either way, Capcom fans should wait until E3 2018 for more information.
