Right after the recent PlayStation 5 showcase, we now know more about the next two consoles, Xbox Series and PS5. And it seems that this will be a tense and balanced battle between Sony and Microsoft.
As fans expect, these two latest products will be the most powerful consoles the company will bring to the market today. Next-gen games offer great graphics and unique experiences. With the highest-end version for PS5 and Xbox Series X both at $499, deciding which one to buy depends on a number of different factors.
Now let’s get this clear first: if you’re a loyal Xbox or PlayStation fan, chances are you’ve already made your decision. Not to mention the current generation games you own will also affect that decision. As for those who are not a big fan of any tycoon, here’s what you need to consider before making a decision.
FIRST IS PRICE
This is a bit complicated array. Microsoft offers two versions: the powerful Xbox Series X and the compact Xbox Series S, which is less expensive but not as powerful. PS5 also comes in two versions: a Blu-ray drive and a digital version priced at $399.
At a glance at the price, those on a tight budget will immediately choose the Xbox Series S, but be aware that this console has a few weaknesses. Of course, the machine will play next-gen games, but they only achieve much lower resolutions. Therefore, if you are not too serious about graphics, the cheapest Series S will be the optimal choice. Microsoft also has a paid service for Xbox Game Pass for just $10 monthly, which is also available on Series X. This service gives you access to a huge library of games to stream, which sounds a bit like Netflix.
Games
If price is not an issue, then everything will depend on the list of games that console has. Both PS5 and Xbox Series X have a full list of exciting games of all genres that you can play immediately when they go on sale in November. Cross-platform games like Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla and Dirt 5 will be available on both consoles on November 10 (Xbox Series X) and November 19 (PS5). But you can still play these games on Xbox One and PS4. So, exclusive games will be the deciding factor.
With the flagship game Halo Infinite delayed to 2021, Xbox Series X currently has only Tetris Effect: Connected, Gears tactics and Yakuza: Like A Dragon. Even loyal Xbox fans are disappointed to see this list of games. They’re good games, but are they engaging enough? Probably not.
Sony is a bit better in this area. The introductory game Astro’s Playroom that comes pre-installed on every PS5 is also an interesting thing that Sony brings. You also get Demon’s Souls, Destruction All Stars, Devil May Cry 5: Speical Edition and Sackboy: A Big Adventure. And let’s not forget the most dangerous one: Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales. The advantage in terms of game list is definitely in the PlayStation’s favor.

DESIGN
One aspect you cannot ignore is the design of each console. Microsoft chose the black box block as the design for the Series X, and the wireless speaker for the Xbox Series S. Both can be placed next to the TV and look very harmonious.
Meanwhile, the large-sized PS5 looks more polished with a white shell on both sides. But the “weird” design of the PS5 will need more time for people to get used to.
EXPERIENCE
Talking about the experience, the two new consoles have a few differences. We’re not talking about graphics as everyone knows Xbox Series X is equipped with a better video card.
PlayStation 5 will focus on the ‘experience’ of our gaming. The DualSense handle mimics the distinct feel of surfaces, such as ice and sand, and then recreates the sensation of a bowstring tensioning with touch-activation. Sony also envisions 3D sound for PS5 with the exclusive Pulse 3D headset, allowing gamers to receive the most realistic sound direction. For example, you are wandering in a dark corridor and there is a zombie slowly walking towards you, you will have to shiver.
The Xbox Series X is also geared towards a similar audio experience, but details have yet to be revealed.
summary
If your budget is tight when the new machine goes on sale and you want to play hundreds of (old) games right away, then the Xbox Series X and Series S are the next-gen consoles you should look for. But if you want to enjoy new games with strange experiences, then PS5 is a more reasonable choice. Want to know which is the best console? Let’s wait another 6 months, so that both consoles have better games, and then make a decision from there.
