Predictions about the upcoming champion of League of Legends

There has been no official revelation about this terrifying monster of the sea.

Riot posted a Champion Development Roadmap for 2018 last week – a very detailed set of posts highlighting future remakes, updates, and new champions. The post revealed that the upcoming champion will be a completely new support, but without any other information, and that has caused a stir in the League of Legends community.

Combine all the signs, trailers and other information and what we predict this new champion will be: an attack-oriented support.

The most important and interesting thing of all the information that we already know is that this champion will be a champion suitable for the current meta. According to the post, it will be an offensive support champion and a goal maker for the team, typically Thresh and Alistar.

This means that this new support will have tools to initiate teamfights, such as shortening distances or crowd control. Or, being inclined to attack doesn’t necessarily mean having control, but it can mean having a lot of damage. This sounds very possible, even very realistic because in Riot’s Champion Development Roadmap, the post hinted at a few skills that the new champion might have.

One of those skills would probably be mind control, or something like that. If true, this will be the first champion in the legendary League of Legends to have a control effect with such a mechanism (like the Enchanting mechanism of Kissing). Riot alluded to a mind control skill in the article when saying that this new support can force enemies to “drow themselves with their own hands.”

In the 2018 Mid-season Invitational trailer, Riot had a “cameo” role played by this champion, and it looked very scary.

The footage shows a still picture of League of Legends champions and MSI teams in the middle of a battle. Everything seems to be normal until the middle of the clip, when it comes to the scene with Janna. Lurking like a ghost in water surrounded by fog is this new champion, surrounded by darkness and emitting a very eerie air.

Riot promises that this support champion will be more evil and sinister than any other champion in League of Legends, and through the trailer above, the descriptions match. Monsters of the sea, demons, darkness and horror are a breath of fresh air, a far cry from Zoe, Orn, Xayah and Rakan – a mix of cute and fun. Even Kai’sa has the confidence and will to win that came from the years she was trapped in the Void. This new champion doesn’t seem to have any good looks.

On the official League of Legends subreddit, there are some very interesting predictions, that the new champion will take the form of a stingray, and will have a Battle Machine skin in the future or right after launch. Many reddit users have found stingray-like symbols on Viktor the Creator’s skin when he returns, as well as in the Battle Machine Vel’Koz skin image:
