Path of Exile releases a big update, allowing you to design your own boss battles

The developer of Grinding Gear has just announced a new update for Path of Exile. It’s so big that it’s almost seen as a sequel to the game, even though it’s still a game. Before Path of Exile 2 launches in 2021, the game will continue to add updates and add small leagues for players to participate in: two of them will launch next month.

Path of Exile’s 3.9 update, Conquerors of the Atlas, will redo the game’s ending, with many minor tweaks. Currently, after players complete the Path of Exile campaign, you’ll explore Atlas of Worlds, a randomly generated map with tough challenges. When the Conquerors of the Atlas expansion comes out next month, Atlas of Worlds will change dramatically to make the challenge harder.

Path of Exile’s late game is complex and difficult to explain. In general, after defeating the final bosses of the original Atlas, the player (you) will be corrupted and need to be defeated. More specifically, Conquerors of the Atlas will add five final bosses based on the main character classes you choose.

As with any Path of Exile update, the game will feature dozens of changes and new items. One of the big changes is the completely reworked bow, which includes new skills and buffed damage. Bows will become a more useful weapon, and skills like Ensnaring Arrow, which blocks enemies from moving, will make bows the preferred choice in combat.

This update also introduces a new league called Metamorphosis. These temporary leagues force players to create new characters but come with exciting new systems mixed with PoE gameplay. In this case, Metamorphosis introduces a new character named Tane Octavius, who frequently joins the player as you play.

Tane will take DNA samples from monsters you kill, and when you have enough, you can call Tane, combining them to create your own boss battle. Each DNA sample Tane collects will have its own elements, changing the skill set of this new boss. Stronger DNA samples increase your chances of getting more valuable rewards – as long as you beat them.

Both the Conquerors of Atlas update and the Metamorphosis league will launch on December 13 on PC.
