Overwatch’s new tank hero, Wrecking Ball, has arrived in the game.
If you don’t have a chance to try this hero in the Overwatch test server, that’s okay. Development Manager Geoff Goodman has some great tips to get you started. Wrecking Ball – aka Hammond – has been on the PTR server since June 28. Overwatch PTR is currently only available to PC players, so PlayStation 4 and Xbox One owners can only play this character. from 24 July onwards.
This hero is designed to break the enemy formation. Wrecking Ball can move quickly thanks to the mechanical hamster ball. That means “dive” will be an integral part of Hammond. Goodman told VG 24/7 that the hero pairs well with D.Va and Winston for the mission of “jumping right into the middle of the opposing team.”
“We have a rather strange and new way of getting in with Hammond, but everyone wait and see. The team loves the dive – it’s fun to watch, and super fun to play. I think it makes for interesting counters. One great thing with Wrecking Ball is that the team can extend this dive idea even more.”
Sniper will play an important role in taking down Wrecking Ball, according to Goodman – anything that can “block” the way the hero moves. Hammond is fast, but takes time to ramp up, which means he’ll show his weakness when trying to get out of the fight. Wrecking Ball is big, which makes the hero easy to target, especially when the boost is on cooldown.
Wrecking Ball is at its maximum when the enemy is clustered, so the hero can easily jump in and knock all enemies out, Goodman said. Escape is a weakness for Hammond if the player does not know how to manage his skills, so you need to consider this when attacking. Make sure you can run.
