New PUBG game being developed by former Dead Space and Call of Duty member

While PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is famous for its battle royale mode, publisher PUBG Corp. announced the new PUBG game in development. The new studio, led by the old Dead Space and Call of Duty team, Glen Schofield, will focus on plot.

The new game is not a sequel to PUBG or another battle royale game, as PUBG’s father, Brendan Greene, previously said he was no longer interested in developing. Instead, a new studio called Striking Distance will focus “on the plot” that takes place in the world of PUBG.

Little is known about the game, but we do know Schofield will take over as CEO at the studio, after leaving Call of Duty development studio, Sledgehammer Games in December 2018. The San-based studio Ramon, California.

Schofield is an industry expert, famous since the days of Visceral Games, when he was also an executive producer for the Dead Space series. Schofield later co-founded the studio Sledgehammer Games with Michael Condrey, developing Modern Warfare 3, Advanced Warfare, and WWII. After the duo left Sledgehammers Games, rumors of a 2020 Call of Duty release passed to Treyarch due to differential tensions between the studios.

Developed from a mod for Arma 2, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds captured the gaming market in early 2017, exploding the battle royale genre. The game then helped games like Fortnite, Apex Legends develop.

After initial success, PUBG expanded to console and mobile. With PUBG Corp expanding the team and bringing in Glen Schofield, it shows that they really want to invest a lot in their pet brand.
