Netflix and movies based on true crimes

Over the years, the film store of Netflix increasingly rich with many crime movies with extremely diverse scenarios, from grisly murderers to romanticized handsome killers. However, the most haunting audience is probably the documentaries based on these true crimes.

Abducted in Plain Sight

This documentary is based on an unbelievable kidnapping and abuse that happened in real life. The film opens with the case that neighbor Robert Berchtold kidnapped 12-year-old Jan Broberg in 1974. He told Jan’s parents that he wanted to take her for a ride but actually drugged her. and took Jan to Mexico to have a wedding with a little girl.

But from here things get complicated and unbelievable with a chain of events: Robert is not only a mere neighbor but also a partner to both Jan’s parents Bob and Mary Ann. The father used to help this neighbor “masturbate” in the car and the mother made love with him for 8 months. All these disgusting things were planned by Robert in advance to get close to Jan because he was actually a pedophile. Robert used abusive relationships to force Jan’s parents to let him sleep with their young daughter, then only 13 or 14 years old – in the family bedroom.

But he not only kidnapped Jan once but twice, abused her and deceived the nuns in the all-girls school with terrible lies. Jan was too young at the time and naively believed his neighbor’s story about aliens and his mission to save the world by having sex with him. By using actors to re-enact scenes with interlocking narration, Abducted in Plain Sight shocks viewers to the core of what is happening right in front of their eyes.
