Neil Druckmann admits it’s very difficult for The Last of Us 3 to happen

Naughty Dog vice president Neil Druckmann admitted it would be “very difficult to find a reason” to produce a sequel to The Last of Us series, even though the second part was highly appreciated by experts.

The series The Last of Us finally has a second part, just released in June, after 7 years of waiting. Now, screenwriter Druckmann warns it could be the end “after a long wait”. Basically, we won’t have part 3 in the development plan.

Why? Like many stories, Naughty Dog wants it to “be right”. If there is no way for the team to expand on the existing characters, as well as the world and game theme, they will not give the green light for a third installment of The Last of Us.

“I think the test to see if I do ‘Part 3’ will be similar to the test I took with ‘Part 2’. In the first game, no one thought that would happen. It’s like we’ve done everything we can, but now the team has come up with the characters and the theme,” admitted Druckmann in an interview with The New York Times. IndieWire.

“It felt like to give a reason to do part 2, we had to do something not to make fans uncomfortable, but to do something to make the emotional circuit similar to the one we had in the early games. . Without that, there’s no reason for Season 3.”

Druckmann added that Naughty Dog found it “much harder” to find the same motivation for the sequel. The members finally found the story they wanted to tell. Unfortunately, it took them nearly a decade to find the same bright spot as in the 2013 original.

“Finding that with the sequel was a lot harder than with the first and from now on it’s even harder to come back into this world and figure out how to mess things up. [một lần nữa]”, he continued.

On the part of experts, part 2 is not out of expectation. The Last of Us 2 was rated by some newspapers as the game of the year. Meanwhile, the second part was also rated “not worth playing” by fans with a score of 4.4 out of Metacritic.

According to Druckmann, there are currently no new video games in development. This is not to say that The Last of Us fans have nothing to do. This popular series will officially step onto the small screen with HBO in charge of film production.

In March, newspaper Hollywood Reporter reported that the series will include the events of the first film, with “possibility” of expanding to Season 2 in the future. The show has yet to confirm its premiere date, but its cast has been confirmed.
