It’s been over a decade since gamers started playing Minecraft. While most other contemporaries have lost their traction, Mojang’s sandbox game remains unaffected, despite the rise of Fortnite. This year, Minecraft is the most viewed game on YouTube, reaching 100.2 billion views.
YouTube’s Rewind 2019 video wraps the year into a 5-minute clip featuring some of the most popular videos.
Roblox videos reached 29.6 billion views, followed by the free mobile battle royale game Garena Free Fire with 29.9 billion, GTA 5 with 36.9 billion and Fortnite with 60.9 billion. And Minecraft is far ahead of Fortnite by 40 billion.
While battle royale games, specifically Fortnite, and the mainstays of Dota 2, CSGO, and League of Legends dominate Twitch, YouTube has always been the home of Minecraft. Minecraft is the beginning of the careers of many YouTubers. It is not surprising that it has grown like that, but the number of 100 billion is unthinkable.
In May, Microsoft said Minecraft had sold 176 million copies across all platforms, making it the best-selling game of all time (unless you add up Tetris and its other versions).
