Development studio Left 4 Dead 1 seems to be preparing to release its next brainchild: Back 4 Blood, described as a co-op shooter against legions of zombies. In other words, this is considered a sequel to Left 4 Dead that Valve has yet to make.

Back 4 Blood was developed by Turtle Rock Studios, the team behind Evolve, and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. In a Q&A posted on the game’s website, Turtle Rock said “they’ll stay true to the core of the game and reinvent it at the same time.” The studio is currently quite tight-lipped about Back 4 Blood. Turtle Rock has yet to release any visuals of the game and says it’s not ready to talk about new features yet.”

However, Turtle Rock emphasizes this is not Left 4 Dead 3.

“Back 4 Blood is our brand new, original product,” the studio said. “You’ll shoot a lot of zombies like in Left 4 Dead, but there are new things in Back 4 Blood to make it unique in its own way.”

“It is very difficult to pass up this great opportunity. We will return to the genre [zombie] that the studio created more than 10 years ago, adding to the zombie experiences and ideas we had,” said Chris Ashton, design director and co-founder of Turtle Rock Studios. “We also have some of the best teammates at WBIE who understand the development process and are completely committed to a player-first mindset. We really want to announce everything soon so the team has started working with the community now.”

Back 4 Blood will feature a campaign, human-to-human combat system and not a battle royale game. The game is expected to launch on PlayStation 4, Windows PC, Xbox One and has not yet announced a release time.
