How to download Flash games

Step 1: Download the game in Chrome

Go to the page containing the Flash game you want to download. Here, you will see an icon that looks like a puzzle piece and notification Click to enable Adobe Flash Player.

Please follow and press Allow in the top right corner of your browser to allow the site to use Flash. Wait for the game loading page to finish before moving on to the next step.

Step 2: View page source

You need to open the source code of the web page containing the game. Right click anywhere on that page and click View page source. You can use keyboard shortcuts Ctrl + U on Windows and Cmd + Option + U on macOS.

You will see a new window with the HTML source code for that page. Here, press Ctrl + F (Cmd + F on Mac) to open the search box and type .swf to find Flash files.

This will find at least one result. The file you’re looking for usually contains the game name so you can ignore the installer files like expressInstall.swf.

Note, you must find the Flash game file first.

If you can’t find the right link

Some flash games are not saved on the page you played them on so you cannot find the game file in the page source code. In this case, you need to go somewhere else. This is quite easy.

On the game start screen or main menu, you’ll usually see a notification Originally hosted on include the source page for that game. You can also try right-clicking on the game. Many developers put a link to their website in that menu.

If you don’t see anything here, search for the game on Google, you will see other archives for it.

In case of failure, you can try File2HD at http://file2hd.com/. It lists all the files on the page, and also allows you to download them. Enter the URL of the game site, agree to the user agreement, and click Get Files. Here, you can find SWF files with Ctrl + F.

Step 3: Download SWF file

Now you can download the SWF file containing that game. Just right click on the blue link ending in .swf found at the top and select Save link as to download it to your computer.

Guaranteed Save as type show Shockwave Flash Object or something like that. This confirms that the file is indeed a Flash document. If it shows up as an HTML page or something similar, you may have right-clicked in the wrong location or the URL did not lead to the page containing the Flash.

If you plan to download some games, you should create a new folder on your computer to save them all. You should also back up that folder so you don’t lose the game if something goes wrong.

Step 4: Play Flash game on the computer

Now you are free to enjoy Flash games without having to browse through software that supports SWF files.

On Windows, you can try Windows Media Player or install Adobe’s Flash Player. Then came File> Open Or drag & drop the SWF file into the app to play it.
