Building friendships & finding a partner is some of the best rewarding long-term goals in Stardew Valley. You can only have a husband or wife at a time, but if the friendship hearts of all villagers are reached, it is often more beneficial.

Giving gifts is one of the best ways to improve friendships with the villagers of Stardew Valley. Just drag the object they like and drop it over their heads. You can do this once a day and twice a week.

However, there is one exception to this rule: birthday. You can always give gifts to villagers on their birthdays. You should because it has a greater positive impact than a particularly friendly conversation. The Feast of the Winter Star event gift will reward friendship ratings.

Some of the gifts provide valuable rewards when you give it to the villagers:

  • Fruit.
  • Maple sap syrup.
  • The elixir of life.
  • Crafts besides cooking oil and Void Mayonnaise.
  • Delicious food with fried eggs, sandwiches and fancy dumplings.
  • Flowers are better than poppies.
  • Gemstones and minerals are better than quartz.
  • Green vegetables are more valuable than wheat & hops.

How to get married

Heart events are special to every villager. They are unlocked at certain thresholds, usually 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 hearts. After two heart events, you can go to that villager’s bedroom for easier conversation each day.

You cannot gain more than 8 hearts on any mate candidate without giving them a bouquet of flowers. You can buy it from Pierre’s department store for 200 gold. After unlocking all 10 hearts, you can win them in the usual way.

Note that you can make an appointment with anyone or all of the villagers at the same time. Doing so will certainly have consequences, but they will only last a week and do not prevent you from marrying another candidate. However, don’t act like that in real life.

When you have 10 hearts and want to propose, you need to give them a mermaid necklace. You can buy it from Old Mariner on the other side of the broken bridge on the beach for 5,000 gold. You will get married within 3 days of giving it to the other party. All other subjects will revert to as normal residents.

Divorce isolation

If for some reason you are not happy with your chosen spouse, Stardew Valley divorce support and other choice of other partners. However, be careful because this brings the heart index to zero, unpleasant conversations about marriage will take place.

To get a divorce, just interact with the book inside City Hall and spend 50,000 gold. Without canceling the divorce paper at the end of the day, the wife & all their possessions will disappear from your home the next day. However, you can keep the baby if you want.

After that, your ex will be tagged in the menu and reject any future gifts from you. However, when you unlock the witch’s hut, you can wipe the memories of your ex-spouse for 30,000 gold. Next time you meet, you & them will be like new acquaintances.
