Here’s an analysis by Cursed, the professional Hearthstone player representing Team Phantasma:
Hearthstone expansions have always changed the game’s meta, but even the recent nerf update has had a big impact on the meta. In this post, we’ll go into detail about the recent nerf update and how the meta is shaped and how each class affects it.
PRIEST
First, we cannot ignore Priest. Priest dominated the meta before the last update. However, this class is completely unaffected by the nerf.
Not only two archestypes (Clone Priest and Control Priest) keep their power, this class also has some very powerful decks. Specifically, Wall Priest is roaming the ladder from the early days of the update. Meanwhile, Divine Spirit combos and sometimes Spiteful Priest decks complete Priest’s deck lineup.
Clone Priest Still the strongest deck right now. Weak though before some aggressive deckssuch as Face Hunter, but Clone Priest is completely undefeatable and can survive any deck.
Control Priest and Wall Priest are also very strong and can deal better with aggressive decks, but often having difficulty with Control decks like Odd Warrior and sometimes, early Hunter Death-Knight.
Divine spirit combo decks seem a bit weaker, but they often surprise people with an OTK phase when there are very few pieces on the table. We currently have no reason to play Spiteful Priest While there are too many strong Priest archetypes at the moment, this deck can work well if it makes good use of the mana in the game.
HUNTER
The second strongest force after Priest is none other than Hunter! Although this update hits the class directly, Hunter has yet to fall off his horse. The strongest and most popular Hunter archetypes right now are Midrange Hunter, Deathrattle Hunter, Secret Hunter and Odd Face Hunter!
First, Midrange Hunter no trouble replacing Hunter’s mark with other cards. However, they can interrupt the fast pace of this deck. This is probably dcurrent strongest eck Hunter, can defeat anyone, whether it’s using up all your mana and killing you faster than you think, drawing a Hyena card and repeatedly buffing it, or going long distance with the help of DeathKnight.
Deathrattle Hunter It is also a very strong deck that can cope well with control and slower decks. Might not be the strongest Hunter deck in rank climbing, it’s become a deadly weapon in some tournaments, used to counter control decks.
Odd Face Hunter and Secret Hunter exist in this meta for the same reason. Although the power is only average, but they cope well with some of the current popular decks. Odd Face Hunter is the quintessence of all Warlock decksplays well with Priest archetypes and handles slow decks like Deathrattle Hunter.
Secret Hunter beat Midrange Hunter very high!
PALADIN
Contrary to Hunter’s nerf, Paladin is more heavily affected in some archetypes. General, Uther OTK Paladin and Holy Wrath Paladin are no more!
This nerf is probably one of the five major changes that make Control Paladin failed. However, things are not the end for Paladin, do Odd Paladin is still going strong, even Even Paladin is alive and well. Not to mention Secret Paladin promises to be a new archetype!
Of these three decks, the most popular is Odd Paladin despite being weak against Hunters and other aggressive decks.
SHAMAN
There’s not much to discuss. Flametongue nerf slaps the class that was struggling before. This nerf does not completely destroy the only common archetype that Shaman has. Unless you want a headache to play Peanut Shaman, the only option you really have in shaman is the Elemental Shaman. But in general, this deck is quite weak at the moment.
