Fortnite will run at 60FPS and 4K resolution on next-gen consoles

The first thing you should expect is a consistent gameplay experience as your progress on current-gen platforms is carried over to next-gen consoles. That means money, skins, ranks, and other stats will be preserved on the upcoming next-gen console.

You’ll be able to download Fortnite on Xbox Series X/S or PlayStation 5 and pick up where you left off. But most gamers already know that, so let’s check out some of the more refreshing improvements on next-gen Fortnite.

For starters, Fortnite will run at 4K resolution and 60FPS on both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X. Xbox Series X won’t be powerful enough to hit similar numbers, but it will still deliver gameplay 60FPS, albeit at a lower resolution of 1080p.

Fortnite fans on PS5 and XSX will also be able to experience a more “lively and interactive world” thanks to the improved environment’s responsiveness to things like explosions. Epic doesn’t provide a visual example of this, but it is assumed that leaves will sway and trees will fall more realistically. On top of that, the liquid and smoke simulations have also been improved and feature a brand new “storm and cloud effect”.

Perhaps most importantly, all next-gen consoles will have significantly faster load times. This means faster warm-ups and less waiting time for the next match.

Next up are a few PlayStation 5-exclusive features. First, Epic plans to take full advantage of the haptic feedback technology (Haptic Technology) in Sony’s new DualSense gamepad. In addition to the general “vibration assist”, this also means “haptic trigger feedback” for ranged weapons.

Second, the PS5 will let you choose your favorite Fortnite game mode directly from the console’s home screen. Whether you prefer to line up as a Solo player, with friends in Duos, or with some allies in Squad, you can immediately enter the respective lobby without pre-booting the main menu.

Epic will most likely release more next-gen features to Fortnite over time, such as ray tracing, but for now, here’s what players can expect to experience on October 10 and 12. 11 coming.
