Choosing the right landing spot as well as good loot in the Fortnite map will affect your success in the game. If you land in the wrong place, you will be like a ‘fish out of water’, running around with nothing but an ax in hand while other players will ‘help’ you play a new game sooner. This article will guide you through the best landing locations in the Fortnite map.
Season 4 of Fortnite breaks through the center of the map, adding Risky Reels to the Northeast and a new stadium to the Northwest. With Fortntie Season 5, three new areas appear while Dusty Divot returns to nature. In Fortnite Season 6, the giant square changes the map in many directions with the theme of “Darkness Rises.”
The vast majority of the points included in the article are separate from the big, named locations, because you know, when you get to those places: there will be a lot of loot as well as enemies. They’re a place to practice shooting for the best shooters, but it’s not good if you want to survive the later stages of the round.
New and improved locations in Fortnite Season 6
The Fortnite map is constantly changing terrain in 2018, thanks to Epic Games updating locations to always breathe new life. But after many changes, some places in the map are still the same.
While areas like Dusty Depot became Dusty Divot, and Tomatow Town became Tomato Temple, many interesting places on the island lack and are not enough reasons for players to visit. The good news is that in update 6.0, many locations have been changed. Those are the areas you tried to avoid months ago – now they’re worth a visit again.
Loot Lake
The most obvious change is the central area, Loot Lake. After the square hit the water and turned into a bounce pad a few days ago, it has now exploded and completely took over the center island.
The central island now floats above the lake and offers new loot opportunities. The same can be found next to the pools of water just below the tornado, now filled with vehicles that can have crates and lots of loot.
You don’t have to find a way to land on the island to get there – jumping into the whirlpool will bring you to the top and you can even unleash your glider to navigate the surrounding areas.
Wailing Woods
One of the best new additions is the massive tunnel in the Wailing Woods. The small building in the center of the maze has disappeared, replaced by a bomb shelter fully equipped with security cameras.
The bomb shelter is quite large and it has a lot of loot locations and crates. Also in this there is another rift, so you can loot them all and jump on it and hide. If bomb shelters are not what you want, there are many additional cabins in the surrounding area inside the Wailing Wood.
Haunted Hills
The northwest region of the map has been improved with the new Haunted Castle at the top of the mountain to the east of the Haunted Hills.
The castle has many chests along with high walls. In addition, it also has a small dungeon area in the middle with many loot locations. This seems like a great place to land as well as fight.
Map updates aren’t just limited to the name – all locations marked by a block as it moves around the map now change as well. These include rough areas, and sometimes even crates appear. Those areas are also home to the new Shadow Stones – which make you invisible and give you the ability to walk through walls.
Basic tips and best landing positions
We’ll dive into specific locations soon, but first, here are five tips for landing, no matter where you’re planning to land:
1. Watch for the loopholes of people who just left the main locations
If 10 people land on a town, there will be one survivor out there with the best loot. One advantage is landing far away from these locations so you can gear up and come back, watching for the victors’ opening when they think everyone’s dead. You may have a clear shot at that person, but they don’t know your position. And that’s the advantage you have, no matter how good their weapons are. Of course, if you kill him, everything will be yours.
2. Landing late if you want to play in peace
The vast majority of players will lose patience and jump off the Battle Bus because they don’t want to wait. Take advantage of this. If you want to get into combat early, jump early. If you want to play slow and safe, jump later.
3. Go as far as possible
The further away the drop location is from the bus location, the less obstacles you will encounter when landing. So, if the bus is flying in the left area of the map, the right area will be less crowded. Drag the parachute to let you fly as far as possible (the map is small enough that you can fly to any area).
4. If you play solo, aim for remote locations
If alone, you can head to locations with less loot. One or two crates will equip you with enough gear to start, but it is very difficult to split it up when playing duo or squad of 4. Therefore, if you are playing with friends, aim for larger venues.
5. Keep an eye on the sky
This is the most important thing when landing. You need to know where you need to land, and the opponents are all around you. Turn your head to the sky and look for other parachutes, trying to remember their landing locations. The more information you have, the more secure your battle will be.

Purple areas, left behind by the mass king
Landing on any of the 7 areas where the block leaves traces on the map is a good idea. They don’t just have chests, but they’re always near named locations for you to visit. They are found throughout the map, placed in previously empty areas, greatly increasing the amount of loot on the island.
The Shadow Stones from season 6 can be found here, helping you to become invisible, move faster, and go through walls. This is a very good stealth option early game. Not only that, these areas have a lot of materials for stone farming.
Abandoned town southwest of Paradise Palms
Of the unknown locations, this is probably the most loot in Fortnite. Paradise Palms has attracted all try-hard players, so the area is usually pretty empty. Enter the western edge area and check the second floor of each house for loot. Walk around town, watch for footsteps, and you’ll find at least 6 crates before you decide to leave the area.
Depending on the circle, traveling along the roads that cut through the desert area is also a good plan. You’ll have a good view of the Paradise Palms, and with the loot from before you can clear out any players left in the area. If the circle is further away than you think, find a rift or golf cart to get out of here.
The northeast area of Flush Factory
Jump directly down to the southeast corner, marked by a tall chimney sometimes with a chest at the top. If you can get it, you will be the first to have the weapon, so you need to know where the enemy is to take them down right away.
From there, loot the big building of that chimney, look in the iron crates and on the stairs to find the chest (you can find two if you’re lucky). Listen for footsteps as this is a rather busy area. Trucks and crates in the open space between buildings often have several extra crates, while normal buildings have one crate per house.
Season 4 adds a warehouse-style nightclub to the area, making it a good landing spot for chests, but the music will drown out the noise from other players, so be careful. It’s quite dark so people can hide anywhere. If unsure, move quickly.
If you control this area, you will definitely be equipped to your teeth. This is a good spot for duos as well as squads if you want to avoid falling into named locations.
Large tree in the northwest of the Wailing Woods
You’ll definitely get a chest or two and a good spot on the map here, but it’s best to just land if you’re playing Solo. Head for the big tree, and when you land, head for the high hill to the south. You will usually find a weapon on the ground. Take it and head to the tree trunk. The tree can have two chests if you’re lucky, if you’re unlucky, you’ll still get one.
Now you have a few options. If you go to Tomato Temple, choose the high hills to look down on the buildings, take advantage of the view. Or, you can head northeast to two nearby houses, one of which has a basement.
The tower in the northeast of the map
This is a favorite place that is still retained after many updates. Located in the far northeast corner of the map is a tower that can spawn up to 3 crates (and sometimes 4), to the west of it there’s an ice cream cart that can spawn 2 more. The first crate locations are in the upper right corner of the tower so land on the roof if you see a yellow spot as you fly through the forest.
However, sometimes there is an exposed chest on the west side of the lower court (you can see it in the image below). If you see it, go pick it up to make sure you have it. This used to be a fairly common location, but enemies are now less visible since the Season 3 update and after Season 4, unless the bus passes through this area.
When the loot is done, head to Risky Reelz or Lazy Links to find some other players or see if there’s any loot left before entering the safe zone.
The mountains to the north of Salty Springs
It’s not the best loot location, but I’m sure you’ll have a lot of fun fighting here.
It’s basically a fairly high mountain area with two or three chests hidden in it, one of which is at the top of the mountain. Try to land to the top before other players have the same idea as you.
If possible, look up the hill from all angles before landing so you can locate all the chests, and then go get them from there. There is a high chance that there will be enemies, but with advance preparation, you will always have a better weapon. When done, enter Salty Springs. Dusty Divot is fine, but now it’s full of trees and plants. Be careful to see if anyone is hiding in there.
The western houses of Shifty Shafts
Jumping into Shifty Shafts isn’t the worst idea. It’s crowded, but you won’t see as many as places with other names. Also, it’s like a maze, so you can limit the fights to 1v1. The best thing to do is to find weapons while landing, and get yourself the best weapons.
However, starting with the western houses is probably the best option. Two buildings usually have one or two crates, plus weapons and ammunition. From there, you’ll have an advantage when it comes to Shifty Shafts. By the time we get here, the gunfights are mostly over, and the winners will be in loot mode, and you can take them out while they’re open.
Also, many people don’t know the location of Shifty Shafts crates, so even if it’s crowded, you can still get a few crates. Pay attention and listen carefully.
On the top of the western mountains
South houses of Snobby Shores
Again, this is a rather risky location so it’s best to use it solo, but it’s very useful if you’re initially planning to land on Snobby Shores and change your mind when you see too many enemies. The two houses here have at least two chests – and don’t forget to overlook the basement below the south house.
If you have enough gear, you can head north and ambush anyone who wants to escape from the Snobby Shores. Or if you’re feeling insecure, head south by the sea. You will find quite a lot of loot in the open field: it is the brown piece of land northwest of Greasy Grove on the map.
The football field west of Tilted Towers
Tilted Towers is obviously an interesting landing spot, but it can get a little crowded. Another way is to go further west, you will meet a series of buildings, and among them is an indoor football field.
This field is a good place to start: there are guns strewn across the field, and there is a chance that crates appear at the end of the field. From there, enter the building on the west side, usually with chests.
If you’ve got enough gear, go back to Tilted Towers and hope everyone’s gone (and leave a few unopened crates). If you want to hide, run northeast to Loot Lake.
