We finally got a glimpse of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s combat system at Sqaure Enix’s E3 press conference with a new trailer. Many fans who expect Remake to be loyal to turn-based gameplay will be disappointed, because FF7 Remake’s system is similar to current Final Fantasy games, especially Final Fantasy 15.
Before the demo started, producer Yoshinori Kitase shared some information about Final Fantasy 7 Remake. First, the full game equivalent two discs of bluray (nearly 200GB of data) – although Square Enix says Remake will be released in installments. Kitase explained that the “first game” in the remake will expand the life of the game’s Midgard city. Kitase said the new storytelling could turn FF7 Remake into a completely separate game.
After the introduction, we are explained how the combat system works. Like Final Fantasy 15, Remake will feature an action combat system. The difference is that while attacking, you will fill up the ‘ATB bar’. When full, you can activate tactical mode to slow down time – during this time, players can perform special attacks or use potions. Since there are only two ATB charges at the same time, players need to consider how to use them effectively. If you waste spells, you might have to wait to heal, after a powerful attack from your opponent.
Players can also change party members at the touch of a button, and each character has different moves and attacks. The trailer shows Barret, Tifa and Aerith going into battle.
Everything looks great, but Final Fantasy 7 Remake has yet to announce a PC release date. Square Enix previously said the game would “launch” on PS4 first.
