FaZe and Cloud9 lost unexpectedly, SK left on the first day of competition

IEM Sydney witnessed many big men fall from their horses and the names that made it happen are none other than the Kangaroo boys.

Unexpectedly, SK Gaming lost to TyLoo in BO1 and then Grayhound Gaming in BO3, officially being eliminated from the tournament. TyLoo also defeated candidate Cloud9 in the Group A victory, while Renegades also defeated FaZe Clan in the remaining Group B victory.

TyLoo had the most impressive run on day one as they won many difficult maps against the strongest teams. TyLoo’s unpredictable play helped them win Mirage against SK in the overtime, and overwhelm Cloud9 in the following match. Hansel “BnTeT” Ferdinand took on the IGL role pretty well, getting himself 32 frags against SK and averaging 22 lives per map with Cloud9. HaoWen “somebody” Xu was also a big factor in helping TyLoo win against the Brazilian giant with 30 kills and explode with a 4th round in the 30th round, helping them come back to push the game to Overtime.

The saddest result was in the SK team, when they still couldn’t get used to Stewie2k. SK was completely underwhelming and the BO3 loss to Australia’s Grayhound was a signal that the Brazilian team was in trouble. This is even more evident when Marcelo “coldzera” David, the player ranked number one in the world in 2017 by HLTV, only top frag 1 out of 4 maps that SK played.

IEM Sydney’s second day match kicks off with the deciding matches in Group B.
