Tournaments in League of Legends, Overwatch, Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2 have once again set new records for viewership. This information is collected by the company eSportsgame and mobile launched by Newzoo.
Four games are called “four games” by Newzoo esports biggest in the West”, with only Overwatch being the only Blizzard game to appear on this 2018 list thanks to the Overwatch League. The report includes data from the 2018 League of Legends World Championship, ELEAGUE Major Boston, The International 2018, and the Overwatch League Finals.
Out of the four games and their tournaments, League of Legends Worlds has the highest viewership on both Twitch and YouTube. The tournament achieved more than 80 million hours of viewing time, accounting for 42% of the total of the four tournaments. However, this number is “slightly down” from last year. Meanwhile, Riot’s main Twitch stream has increased.
During the tournament’s total of 304 hours of streaming (October 1 to November 3), the entire tournament averaged 93,000 viewers live on Twitch.
While League of Legends Worlds 2018 scored the highest viewership ratings, CS:GO’s ELEAGUE Major scored a higher average live viewership: 173,000. Total watch time of this ELEAGUE Major reached 54.1 million hours, up 26.8% compared to last year’s Atlanta event. Dota’s The International 2018 was slightly worse, reaching 49.3 million hours.
Overwatch League Finals came in last in all four events by a huge margin: just 5.6 million hours watched on both Twitch and YouTube Gaming, mostly coming from mainstream Overwatch League channels
While Overwatch’s numbers are much lower than the other three games, 93% worse than Worlds and 89% lower than TI, this is only the first year of the Overwatch League.
