Dota 2: Which is the strongest Support hero in the meta?

It looks like the pub meta has stabilized over the past few weeks so we can begin to find out which heroes are the best right now. The pub meta may not be fundamentally different from the pro arena, but hero difficulty and popularity are very important factors: all teammates need to understand your intentions, and the team should is a homogeneous block. SNAPFIRE – BEST SUPPORT IN HIGH RANK GAMES

Perhaps everyone is tired of talking about this hero, but Snapfire is very popular in pubs and pro arenas, and is also one of the top supports right now.

Although the hero’s success in tournaments is slowly decreasing, in pubs it is increasing: the hero’s win rate after patch 7.24b has dropped even below 50%. Now, this number is recovering, showing that pub gamers are gradually getting better at Snapfire.

There are some interesting stats about the hero: Snapfire is one of the few heroes that are popular at higher ranks but the win rate is pretty even across all ranks. Snapfire was also the most popular hero in games of Divine rank and above last month, achieving a 52% win rate. However, the article thinks that this number will go down when the nerf effect from 7.24b takes effect.

DISRUPTOR – MOST STABLE SUPPORT

Probably the most stable pick in the current meta when it comes to supports. Disruptor doesn’t have a very high win rate, but is effective at all ranks and can appear first in the draft.

The stats about this hero are quite interesting: popularity and win rate remain roughly the same in almost every rank. The article feels this is a very quality hero: whether you play the game at your own rank, or play against players with a much higher/lower MMR, they always know how to play with you on the team.

Disruptor is also one of those heroes that are “engineered from the ground up”: a skill that can capture any opponent or at least force the opponent to activate BKB.

LICH – NO COMPETITION IN LOW RANK

Lich’s popularity increases with rank, but the hero’s win rate drops rapidly in Divine games or higher. Lich has many ways of being countered: it can be separating to avoid Chain Frost or finding a way to Purge to confront Frost Shield. The good players weren’t afraid of meeting Lich, of course. Therefore, for anyone from Ancient rank and below, Lich is an extremely safe choice.

The current meta usually has at least one core that deals mainly with hand attack, so Lich will always be in the game. This hero is pretty great in the active lane, still plays well when supporting the hero playing passively and is effective at defending turrets (Frost Shield on turrets is quite strong).

So, if you are climbing rank, then Lich is definitely a very safe choice to practice. Don’t expect this hero to be strong and impactful in high tier games, but at low pub tier it’s entirely possible.

NYX ASSASSIN – DON’T HESITATE TO TRY THROUGH

This is a controversial name, but Nyx Assassin is an extremely strong hero in the current meta. This hero does not deal much damage, but the skill set to support teammates is too excellent.

Nyx specializes in scouts, has the ability to Break – which is quite useful in some situations – and a lot of disables to make it easier to survive than most supports. The only problem with this hero is knowing how to use the skill.

Winning the stun is difficult and requires players to practice a lot to use it effectively. With any player from Archon and up, Nyx can become a support that helps you increase MMR. Early games with Nyx will certainly be painful, but once you grasp the potential for rotation and know where to position in teamfight, you’ll have the hard work you deserve.

However, we are not sure how long this hero will last. Nyx is very popular in the professional scene right now and will likely be nerfed in the future. On the one hand, learning this hero in the current meta will be hugely rewarding. What about the other side? This hero may not last long in the meta, leading to your time being wasted.
