We continue the series about heroes that are not suitable for new players. Today, the article will focus on the mid and carry roles.
SNIPER IS NOT SUITABLE FOR NEWS
Sniper used to be one of the heroes included in the Dota 2 tutorial and that inadvertently made Sniper popular in the low ranks as well as the mid position. In terms of gameplay, Sniper is quite clear, but this hero has many weaknesses that need to be pointed out.
One of those weaknesses was discussed last time: Sniper’s health is ‘very paper’ and choosing the right standing position is quite difficult, while it is still a vague concept for new players. In addition, Sniper has a lot of enemies that they didn’t anticipate. Heroes with the ability to shorten the distance will be a ‘death sentence’ for snipers, especially when low ranked players often do not know how to help each other on the map and play at a distance from each other.
Second problem: while Sniper’s positioning is extremely important, it’s still easier than most ranged heroes. Therefore, switching from Sniper to any hero in the future will make it difficult for new players to find a safe standing position.
Finally, the article does not believe that Sniper is really as strong later as many people think and that could be a problem later in the game. If everything else in the game is in balance, Sniper has a hard time penetrating carries with huge amounts of armor and health.
So, choosing another hero for beginners to learn to play Dota will be a better choice. Similar to Offlane, mid requires flexibility, good mechanics skills to face 1 vs 1 opponents, and knowledge of where and when to rotate, when to apply pressure. Therefore, the article really believes that Death Prophet is one of the most suitable heroes for new players, but surely some of you will disagree with this opinion.
The reason the article believes Death Prophet is relevant is because this hero teaches a little bit of everything to new players. DP is not strong enough to make you ignore standing position, but also not too ‘paper’ to die in 1 note, especially when used to using Spirit Siphon. Hero doesn’t overwhelm the lane like Viper, but has a good creep wave clearing skill that makes me never poor, and the ability to withstand most heroes.
Depending on the situation, DP can gank, can teamfight and can push lane. Death Prophet can completely be strong in the late game even though the growth rate is not like other heroes.
Unlike other mid heroes, Death Prophet has an add-on gameplay, which can teach new players that sometimes damage isn’t the only thing. DP’s Silence is one of the most powerful silence moves in the game and shouldn’t be underestimated, particularly at its huge cast range.
According to the article, all of the above points make Death Prophet a great starting hero for new players, especially when this hero is growing hot, both in terms of popularity and win rate.
Default CARRYS
Juggernaut is the default carry for all new players and the article has absolutely no problem with this hero. Juggernaut’s defense is good, supports teammates with Healing Ward and strong later. The same can be said for Wraith King – both heroes are good for new players.
Dota 2 also has another famous carry pair, Anti-Mage and Phantom Assassin, but these two heroes are really weak at the moment, so they are not suitable.
In addition, the game has a small group of heroes that are always present at low ranks – also quite popular and have a good win rate – but in the opinion of the article, it is not suitable for new players. The author is talking about the group of stealth heroes.
Heroes like Clinkz and Riki always ‘play pub’. After a lot of changes over the years, IceFrog has balanced them both in the low-rank pub and the pro scene. However, the article still doesn’t think they should be the default heroes to learn Dota for new players.
The gameplay and stealth power of these heroes are used completely differently between low rank and high rank. At low rank, it’s mostly used as an escape tool. But at high rank, it is mainly used to initiate combat and a tool to help choose a reasonable tactical position. Both playstyles can be brought into play in the right situations.
However, these heroes have the same problems as Bristleback: they don’t teach Dota players holistically. They show you tools that easily exploit the weaknesses of other new players. At a stage after spamming this group of heroes, you won’t know how to play Bristleback, Riki or Clinkz for real. You only know how to win against bad players and gradually become ‘useless’ at the level of Archon and above.
Therefore, the article completely agrees with the community on both Juggernaut and Wraithking, a bit skeptical about Phantom Assassin and Anti-Mage since these two heroes are a bit weak right now. As for stealth heroes, the author does not believe that new players should play them to learn Dota 2.
So do you agree with the article’s point of view? Please share which hero do you think would be suitable for new players in Dota 2?.
