Dota 2: It’s OG’s Topson’s turn to take a break to enjoy life

Many had predicted that at least one OG member would announce his retirement after two Internationals – but no one expected it to be Topias “Topson” Taavitsainen.

After the huge success at TI9, Topson told fans that he will take a break from Dota to be with his family and think about his career.

Topson has been playing Dota since he was 8 years old, but he only really turned pro when he joined OG. After being added to the OG roster just a few months before TI8, Topson became a key player in helping the team write a fairy tale at Dota 2’s most prestigious tournament.

Not only that, Topson and his teammates also entered Dota 2 history, becoming the first team to win TI twice (and also the first team to win 2 TIs in a row).

After winning TI8, Anathan “ana” Pham took a long break, and returned nine months later, just in time to help OG qualify for TI9. Ana said at that time she needed time to find motivation and focus on herself.

Similarly, Topson said she wants to take some time off to focus on her family while looking back at her career to set better goals for the future. He thanked fans for supporting his young career.

The key point here is that Topson calls this break “holiday”. Unlike ana, who said earlier that it sounded like he intended to hang up the mouse completely, it seemed that Topson just wanted to take some time for himself before returning.

This means OG won’t be attending the first Major of the 2019-2020 DPC, like last year, but Topson won’t be taking as long a break as Ana. But after two years of competing in the senior arena and winning the biggest prize money, no one would complain if he decided to take a break.
