Dota 2: How good are Holy Locket and Kaya in 7.20

HOLY LOCKET – WORTH IT OR MORE FOR RATE?

At a glance, Holy Locket is suitable for heroes that make good use of stats (stats) and increase healing. Dazzle and Necrophos used to be good candidates, with Necrophos benefiting more from his healing skills. With the reworked passives – from magic resistance to healing – heroes like Pudge and Huskar can take advantage of this item, even though they don’t have the healing skill themselves. Finally, we have Timbersaw, with Reactive Armor’s healing buffed in 7.20 – Holy Locket seems like the ideal item given its stats, magic resistance and healing abilities.

However, in reality, this item is inferior in many aspects. If used as a support item – increasing the team’s healing ability – then for the price of 2650 gold, you have many other options such as Force Staff, Eul’s Scepter, Rod of Atos or Glimmer Cape. Even Dazzle, one of the top heroes in the current meta, Holy Locket is completely absent in either support or core positions. Team Liquid’s Matumbaman usually goes to Guardian Greaves and then changes to Solar Crest or Hex, J.Storm’s Forev usually goes to Force Staff. The above items have better usefulness on the team than Holy Locket’s healing ability. The most striking feature of Locket in terms of its effectiveness is probably its high stats.

But is an item with good stats, not strong enough in the current meta. Holy Locket can’t yet be an item in the early to mid game phase – a phase that is mostly occupied by Wraith Band, Bracer, or Null Talisman stacks. For example, Timbersaw can switch from Bracers to Eul’s or to Lotus Orb/Bloodstone. These items deal with mana issues and weakness against silences. The timing of Huskar’s build is also difficult – he often switches from Bracer to Armlet, BKB, Halberd or Pike.

Like every new hero and item in Dota, they haven’t found a place in people’s hearts right away. Holy Locket is a good item in theory, but in practice it is not. It will probably need a few more tweaks.

TRANSFORMATION FROM KAYA

Kaya has, since launch, been an underutilized item, with the exception of Storm Spirit who is the hero that builds this item. Patch 7.20 introduces Yasha and Kaya and Kaya and Sange, opening up some interesting build options.

With movement speed now a percentage, slow heroes have to switch to Yasha to compensate, +25 movement speed and +35 extra when upgrading to dual swords.

Another valuable value for heroes that go up Yasha and Kaya lies in the attack speed bonus. Storm Spirit, since losing attack speed from Power Treads, really needs this item. And we have the Outworld Devourer, with a stronger Arcane Orb thanks to more mana and attack speed.

Y&K is worth considering for Intelligence heroes on Kaya, rather than Agility heroes on Yasha. There are some heroes that combine Agility and magic damage, like Shadow Fiend and Venomancer, that can take advantage of Y&K. But with Intelligence generals, Kaya really isn’t as useful as Yasha. These heroes don’t need mana reduction, and if Venomancer wants to deal more magic damage, he has better options like Aghanim’s Scepter and Veil of Discord.

As for Kaya and Sange, it’s more situationalized, with the scaling being almost half that of Y&K. If you go to Kaya, and don’t want Yasha, then you can go this way. Zeus, Skywrath Mage, or even Ancient Apparition can choose K&S. This item becomes more interesting on strong heroes, like Timbersaw, Ogre Magi, Bristleback, depending on how much you value Status Resistance. But like Holy Locket, K&S isn’t useful enough at 4k to be the ultimate hero pick.
