Despite not having enough goods to sell, PS5 has just set a new record

Extremely successful start for PS5.

According to market research group NPD, the new generation PlayStation 5 console is the console with the most successful start in US history both in terms of units sold and revenue (in USD).

Although not yet announced specific numbers, the NPD said that what the PS5 has been doing has far exceeded the names in the past such as PS2, Xbox One, PS4 or recently Nintendo Switch. This is a remarkable success of Sony in the context of limited supply because of the pandemic. In fact, the demand to buy PS5 in the market is still very large, and without the COVID-19 pandemic getting in the way, perhaps this console would have been even more successful.

According to figures released by Sony, they sold 4.5 million PS5 units in 2020. This number was increased to 7.6 million units in March 2021. Of course, this is only the beginning of the era of the new system. It should be known that games on PS5 are still limited and there are no real blockbusters. Sony is already known for its quality exclusive titles, and that will be their strategy to boost sales of PS5 in the future.

“We expect high demand for PS5 to continue in the coming fiscal year and will do our best to meet that demand,” said Chief Financial Officer Hiroki Totoki. “Everyone, rest assured, the supply will be abundant again soon.”
