Since the game’s launch less than a month, Gunfire Games’ Darksiders 3 has not really lived up to expectations. With the battle system completely changed, the development team was forced to find new ways to win the hearts of players and hopefully attract new gamers. One of their plans included the option to change Darksiders 3’s default combat system to the fighting style of the first two.
The latest update adds a “Classic” combat mode, which works like the first two installments of the series. The most outstanding feature of this Classic battle system is that players can interrupt their own attacks by dodging. In the default combat system, Fury, the game’s protagonist, is forced to complete his attacks before deploying his next attack. Another important change is that Fury can use items immediately. The problem many players have had in the past is that using an item requires the character to complete a movement – this can get you killed while trying to heal yourself.
Gunfire Games also added many improvements to the latest update. Some of those changes include more checkpoints, raising the max level to 200 and increasing the effects of enchainments, balancing gameplay after reaching level 80, among other bugs.
Both Gunfire Games and THQ Nordic are sure to develop another Darksiders 3 game in the future, but given Darksiders 3’s poor sales over the past three weeks, the possibility of a new installment is unlikely. It’s a pity to see the series go downhill. The Darksiders 2 development studio closed shortly after the game’s release before being acquired to revive the THQ franchise. Currently, the biggest chance for Darksiders 3 to succeed in terms of revenue this year lies in this Christmas sale.
Darksiders 3 is available now on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
