In the second month of 2020, we have the opportunity to witness three international tournaments: BLAST Premier Spring 2020, DreamHack Open Anaheim and IEM Katowice. Therefore, the world CSGO rankings have had quite a big change, with a slight adjustment in the top 10.
Notably, Natus Vincere climbed to second place after an impressive performance in Poland. Of course, G2 is also in the group, while Liquid is outside the top 5 for the first time in over 18 hours.
Scoring mechanism
Here are tTo summarize the factors that affect the scores of the teams on the leaderboard each month:
The leaderboard has a base score of teams based on their performance in the previous year (achievement points). Then there is the “Form” score, which is calculated based on the individual achievements of the Players in the team and the results of online tournaments in the last 2 months. Finally, the LANs point, this point is calculated based on the performance in offline tournaments within the last 3 months.
Also, if a team wants to keep their base score before calculating the new month’s score, their lineup must keep at least 3 players from the previous month. And as mentioned above, the results of the online competition only slightly affect the scores in the “Form” section and it is mainly counted for the purpose of ranking some new teams on the rankings (this is possible. Understandably, because LANs scores affect a lot, teams that do not have a place to compete offline but want to go up the rankings must try their best in online tournaments).

Here are five key takeaways from the February rankings:
North American teams level off
Liquid and Evil Geniuses, the two strongest teams in North America, both participated in the two big events of February, BLAST Premier Spring and IEM Katowice. Liquid were considered one of the contenders at Katowice, but they were unable to make it through to the quarterfinals, losing to G2 and Natus Vincere. Being in the top six only partly confirmed some of the problems the team had in London: losing twice to FaZe in the group stage.
Evil Geniuses showed some worrying signs in London, finishing third in the group stage after losing twice to the newly formed OG team. The team opened the Katowice campaign with a win over the MAD Lions, but lost to compatriots Liquid and 100 Thieves, ending their run.
Na`Vi wakes up
Natus Vincere finally quenched his thirst for titles when he won IEM Kaotwice and incapacitated Astralis. The encounter at BLAST Premier Spring saw an intense three-map series with the victory belonging to Na`Vi, but in Poland, the CIS boss almost didn’t have to lose a single drop of sweat to beat his opponent. They quickly ended the series less than two hours after winning 16-5 on both maps. Natus Vincere continued to see off G2 in the final to win his first major title since StarSeries i-League Season 7 last April.
In just one month, Na`Vi climbed 6 places, up 532 points. That puts the team just four points behind Astralis – the Danish team has been number 1 in the world since November after being temporarily usurped by Evil Geniuses. With the form of young talent Perfecto shining, we can believe this is the new ambitious squad. With recent performances against the strongest teams, Na`Vi is expected to be the next world No. 1 team.
G2 hit a new peak
Fans of the French team can rejoice at G2’s resurgence following the BLAST Premier Spring championship: topping Group C by winning 100 Thieves and OG (twice). But at Katowice, G2 showed just how far they’ve come, beating three of the top five teams in mousesports, Liquid and Fnatic.
The change in mentality and individual performances have given fans hope for the future of G2. JaCkz as he has improved his English with the Serbian duo nexa and huNter- have adapted, we can expect them to improve further.
Gen.G Rises After Winning Anaheim
Gen.G impressed the CSGO community with its LAN debut in the US, where the team took home the DreamHack Open Anaheim trophy against FURIA. Before defeating the Brazilian team, Gen.G won ENCE, Complexity and North to enter the top 30 CSGO world rankings.
BnTeT has long been considered the best talent in Asia and with his improving English, he is slowly gaining more influence. Meanwhile s0m is having a great career with a rating of 1.33, led by experienced leader daps. While it’s still quite early to judge Gen.G, the home performance has shown this is the North American team that can break into the top 10.
MIBR, ENCE and forZe fell
ENCE’s weakness continued to be exposed when the team performed poorly at DreamHack Open Anaheim: finishing last after losing to Gen.G and a struggling MIBR. This is the second tournament in a row ENCE has finished like this. Whether it’s a change of blood, even a change of play or role, ENCE still needs to do something if they want to return to the top 5 form as before.
DreamHack Open Anaheim continues to show the steady decline of MIBR. The team could not qualify for the group stage after losing consecutively to Comexity. The prolonged struggle shows that the problems lie in the core of the team, however there are still comments that meyern is still not adapted to the team, even though three months have passed. The problem was that the team couldn’t identify the problem to fix. Only time will tell when the Brazilian team will be able to fix it, but given the situation, the team will probably have to fall outside the top 20 in the world CSGO rankings for the first time.
And forZe dropped 12 places in the last month alone when the team suffered from psychological problems in Anaheim: finishing last when they lost to North and Endpoint. And yet, forZe didn’t even win the right to attend the WESG 2019 Global Finals, losing to Spirit in three maps. The long winter break has been underwhelming and takes away from this CIS team what’s most impressive. It seems that the Russian team needs to settle down and work together if they want to get back to the top of the CSGO world rankings.
