After the Berlin Major ended, with Astralis taking home its third Major title in a row, Valve spoke out about the issues that surfaced in the tournament including conflicts of interest, exclusivity, and prize casting rights.

On September 18, Valve posted on a blog titled “Keeping Things Competitive”, saying that it was the responsibility of the organizers to work with the streamer.

“Major organizers will always remain the sole copyright holder of Major reporting… However, Major organizers are expected to work with streamers to bring valuable alternative content to viewers and at home. languages are not served, mainstream stream or not.”

In addition to talking about reporting rights, Valve has talked about conflicts of interest between organizations and teams, about rumors that tournaments want exclusivity.

Speaking of which, Valve added the following request:

“In order to attend the Major, we require players, teams and organizers to confirm they have no conflicts of interest, or if they do, speak up and resolve them.”

In the announcement, Valve details this requirement when it comes to terms that players, teams, and organizations must sign and agree to when signing up for the Major.

On the issue of exclusivity, Valve is blunt:

“At this time, we are not interested in licensing events that limit participating teams from participating in other events.”

If so, it would conflict with the recently announced ESL DreamHack Pro Tour pseudo-system. According to information from DeKay and Dexerto, it has many provisions about exclusivity in the rules section.
