CSGO remains one of Steam’s most popular games, and the pro arena is still going strong. The choices of professional players as well as the adjustments made by Valve in the game are what changed the popularity of guns in CSGO.
YouTuber SkelliBoi posted a video chart showing the meta information of the guns used from the game’s launch from September 2012 to April 2019.
Each weapon is displayed on the graph corresponding to the percentage of lives that the weapon has, and the color of each weapon corresponds to the T or CT faction.
SkelliBoi also notes updates that adjust weapon parameters as well as add new guns to the game.
We can see how the weapons change through each meta stage of the game, but the most remarkable point is the AK-47: the gun has always been at the top of the T side since CSGO first launched. The AK-47 accounted for at least 30% of the kills of professional players – often twice as much as any gun that was in second place at the time.

Incredibly, CSGO’s weapon meta has remained stable throughout nearly 7 years of pro play. Of course, there are a few changes to the game, but overall, it seems that players have a preference for certain weapons. They usually use certain guns after a patch comes out, changing weapon parameters.
In addition to the video above, SkelliBoi also has some interesting CSGO charts worth checking out if you’re interested in how this data is represented.
