CS:GO is surprisingly free and added a Battle Royale mode this past Thursday. However, the reaction was not great at all: 14,237 negative Steam reviews appeared on the CS:GO site on December 7. The number of negative reviews for CS:GO on this day is more than the whole month plus since Steam added player reviews to the game in 2013. Currently, we have at least 4,000 more negative reviews appearing on the site.
The overwhelming majority of negative reviews criticized the game’s free-to-play system instead of the battle royale mode. Some players are not happy when the game they paid for is now free for everyone. Others are hoping for nothing more than the loyalty badge they’ll get for purchasing the game before Thursday. Many people believe that free games will increase the number of hacks and cheats. There were a lot of requests for refunds for the titles they bought.

A lot of negative reviews complain about the change to Prime matchmaking. Previously, Prime matchmaking was limited to those who added their phone number to their account and reached Rank 21. Now, anyone who purchased CS:GO before is promoted to Prime.
However, not everything is negative. On the same day, 7,000 positive reviews on Steam also appeared and the highest number of consecutive players for the whole year. As usual, reviews on Steam do not always reflect the good and bad points of the game but are used to express dissatisfaction with the latest decision of the developers.
