CSGO: Misconception about the trick of jumping without making noise

Trick jumping without making noise is considered a valuable and important tool in CSGO. However, this trick is not as great as you think.

100 Thieves coach Chet “ImAPet” Singh debated the issue on Twitter, saying he’s surprised so many people don’t understand the trick:

Just going to spread awareness but when you think you’re silent jumping to an area, there is still sound (very low), so if you’re in a 1on1 and there is no comms and you silent jump something, you are making noise regardless.

For CSGO fans who don’t know this, silent jump is a way for players to jump without making a sound when landing. By sitting, jumping, and releasing the sit button in the air, the player is able to hide his position due to the noise he makes.

This move isn’t really useful in most situations, but can help the player capture corners from vantage points: like Catwalk in Dust2, while standing on crates outside the CT spawn area. On the Train map, it can be used to look past trains. It can also be used to silently jump to certain locations, like moving from tetris to sandwhich in Mirage.

However, this “silent jump” technique is not really silent. If the volume is turned up high and all communication in the game is silent, the player can hear a soft sound during each of these ‘noise jumps’.

This is the sound he’s talking about, I’ve made it louder so you can better hear it.

This soundscript plays on every jump regardless that you’re walking or not.

Probably intended, but I kinda doubt it, it’s weird that this sound can be heard by other players.

The reason ImAPet decided to share the information could be that one of the players on his team, 100 Thieves, was unaware of this fact. This is valuable information for any good CSGO player, when faced with gamers who take advantage of the silent jump trick. Understanding who uses this move can be heard, which means you can exploit this loophole in cases where silent jump is often applied.
