MIBR star Marcelo “coldzera” David is no longer considered by HLTV to be the best CS:GO player of 2018.

The Brazilian ranked 10th in this 2018 HLTV 20 player ranking – an annual ranking series that celebrates the best talent in Counter-Strike. Coldzera fell nine places from where it was in the previous two years. In 2016 and 2017, coldzera took the world number 1 spot.

Throughout 2018, MIBR (formerly SK Gaming and Luminosity) could not find the success they had in the two years before that. The core of the team: coldzera, Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo, Fernando “fer” Alvarenga, and Epitacio “TACO” de Melo won two Valve Majors in 2016: MLG Columbus and ESL One Cologne. In 2017, the team dominated most of the year – but without a Major championship.

In 2018, Denmark’s Astralis rose strongly – also, MIBR had trouble in early 2018 with Ricardo “boltz”. With talented Emil “Magisk” Reif and Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander at the helm, Astralis surpassed MIBR’s record title the previous year, winning nine trophies, including the FACEIT London championship.

Astralis superstar AWPer Nicolai “dev1ce” Reedtz also entered the 2018 Player of the Year race, along with Natus Vincere superstar carry: Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev. Na`Vi is considered the second best team in the world in 2018, with great credit coming from s1mple. Meanwhile, MIBR is not in the top 5 like in previous years, so coldzera’s drop from number 1 is not entirely his fault.

On the other hand, coldzera outperforms players from rival teams like FaZe Clan, Team Liquid, Astralis, and Cloud9. Here is the list of players who have been named in the current HLTV top 20, as of January 12:

  • Marcelo “coldzera” David (#10)
  • Ladislav “GuardiaN” Kovacs (#11)
  • Russel “Twistzz” Van Dulken (#12)
  • Andreas “Xyp9x” Hojsleth(#13)
  • Tomas “oskar” Stastny(#14)
  • Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski(#15)
  • Miikka “suNny” Kemppi(#16)
  • Tim “autimatic” Ta(#17)
  • Harvard “rain” Nygaard(#18)
  • Robin “ropz” Kool (#19)
  • Valdemar “valde” Bjorn Vangsa (#20)

If MIBR regains the glory of previous years, not to mention the team is preparing to return to the all-Brazilian roster, coldzera could be the best player of 2019.
