CD Projekt Red: ‘We Can’t Make The Witcher 4’

With the huge success of The Witcher 3, there is a lot of anticipation about the sequel The Witcher 4 will be released. However, game developer CD Projekt Red said they have no plans to develop a part 4 of the game. This still hasn’t stopped fans from demanding a sequel. Unfortunately, now, it seems that the developer has really closed the door on the possibility of a sequel to Geralt’s story.

Actually CD Projekt Red is very busy. Cyberpunk 2077 is in development, while the card game Gwent is in open beta. With so much going on, many people would naturally think that Witcher 4 would be out of reach.

At the gaming conference at Pareto Securities, CD Projekt Red’s Adam Kicinski once again highlighted the issue. “We couldn’t make The Witcher 4 because the game was originally intended to be a trilogy,” Kicinski said. He then took the opportunity to comment further on the world expansion issue in the Witcher. “No one is saying we’re not going to develop something in the Witcher world, but right now everyone’s focused on Cyberpunk and Gwent.” Therefore, while Witcher 4 is out of reach for the time being, fans will still have the opportunity to return to this world in a side story or prequel (which happens before the time in the game).

Moving on to Cyberpunk 2077, CD Projekt Red has just opened a whole new studio to help develop the game, and while they haven’t revealed much about Cyberpunk 2077, the information from what we know suggests that the game is vast, greater than what the company has done before.

The fact that Witcher 4 may never be in development is disappointing some fans, but what CD Projekt Red is doing with Cyberpunk 2077 should probably ease everyone’s sadness. The adventures of Geralt may be closed for now, but that doesn’t mean we can’t expect anything from CD Projekt Red’s upcoming projects.
