Arena in Hearthstone will change in patch 10.4

Arena in Hearthstone will have some changes in patch 10.4 of the game.

Hearthstone fans will be excited to know that Arena-specific cards (which appeared at BlizzCon) are finally being added to the game. These cards were chosen by the BlizzCon audience at the event. Each class will now have an Arena-specific card and can only be obtained when creating an Arena deck.

There are a few minor changes from the original BlizzCon cards:

  • Priest card mana cost reduced from 3 to 2.
  • The text in many cards has been adjusted, but the effect remains the same.

Card selection for Arena decks will change in patch 10.4, cards are now ranked by their strength level instead of rarity. Before that, cards of different strength were grouped together based on rarity – one of them would be much stronger than the others, so it wasn’t a matter of making a choice.

The first, ten, twenty, and thirty cards will still give a card of rare or higher rarity. Blizzard has now “temporarily turned off the chance to encounter cards from the latest expansion,” said Hearthstone game system designer Kris Zierhut.

In addition, players will also be less likely to encounter cards of lower than average value. Zierhut adds. “Our goal with these changes is to allow players to make more interesting choices when creating Arena decks,” he said. “We believe it will give you more mastery over the deck, which in turn makes Arena much more enjoyable.”

Here is a summary of the changes in patch 10.4:

  • Cards from BlizzCon have been added! They will appear for a limited time.
  • Cards will now be based on strength level, not rarity. For example, Common can be paired with Rare, not all rare, all common as before.
  • The Legendary cards are still in the 3-card set (ie the Legendary pick remains the same).
  • Cards 1, 10, 20, and 30 will still include cards from Rare and above.
  • Blizzard has temporarily turned off the card spawn boost in the latest update.
  • The rules that affect the appearance rate of posts remain unchanged.
