Apex Legends unveils self-leveling Evo Shield, Heirloom in System Override

Apex Legends unveils self-leveling Evo Shield, Heirloom in System Override

Apex Legends Season 4 begins right on the occasion of the game’s 1-year anniversary. With the changes coming to Season 4, including new weapons, tweaks in World’s Edge, and new Legend, Respawn also adds new events and updates.

In a surprise announcement, Respawn revealed a new event coming up. This time, it will have more content, a new heirloom, and changes that affect the gameplay pacing of Apex Legends.

The System Override Colletion event will take place on March 3, 2020, and run until March 17, 2020. Many aspects of the event resemble the Grand Soiree Arcade featured in Season 3. One of the similarities of the two main events is the reward tracking system. The game will have challenges for you to complete in two weeks.

As for normal and ranked modes, Apex Legends relies on a familiar battle royale experience with random loot and roundabouts. This time, Respawn took advantage of the event to test new things. In the System Override Collection, the game will have a special mode called Deja Loot that lasts for two weeks. In week 1, Deja Loot will take place in World’s Edge, and in week 2, Kings Canyon – the fan favorite map.

Deja Loot will have loot appearing at that exact location during the event, which means purple armor will always be in that inventory. Similarly, the circle will return to that position every day (it will change from day to day).

Respawn also released a new item, Evo Shield. Currently, the lowest armor level is Level 1 (White/Common) and adds 50 armor to the wearer, while the highest (Purple/Epic and Gold/Legendary) adds 100 armor. Evo Shield only has 25 armor initially, at first glance you will mistake it for a low quality item. However, the more damage the player deals to the opponent, the stronger the Evo Shield will be.

Slowly, Evo Shield will level up on its own and become stronger than Epic Body Shield, which adds 125 armor. It also has a colorful aura for players to recognize if they have an Evo Shield equipped. Respawn says the Evo Shield is currently exclusive to Deja Loot, but if you’re interested in the item, the developer might consider adding it to the main game.

During each event, the premium store will be open to sell decorative accessories. With the System Override Collection event, the game will have 24 items for you to buy directly with Apex coins or Crafting Metals. Event Apex Packs are also purchasable and contain random event items.

When Apex Legends was first released, the game only had 1 Legend that owned the heirloom item, Wraith. Heirloom is an extremely rare item that Legend holds when switched to empty hands, with a special animation. After that, other Legends gradually owned their own heirloom. With the latest event, Octane finally joins the heirloom clan and gets himself a butterfly knife/syringe combo.

Currently, the chance of opening a heirloom in an Apex Pack is 1 in 500, and you are guaranteed to get a heirloom set after opening 500 packs. However, owning heirloom is still completely random. For example, your Legend of the cabinet might be a Pathfinder, but it will be quite disappointing when Heirloom opens up to be Lifeline’s. However, this process will soon change.

The 1 in 500 probability remains the same, as does the certainty of getting the heirloom after 500 packs. But instead of the lucky player opening the Apex Pack and getting the Heirloom, you now have the Heirloom Shard. Gamers can use Heirloom Shard to get the heirloom they want in the Heirloom Shop. This change is something the community has been asking for for a long time. This means players can keep their Heirloom Shard, waiting for the new Heirloom to launch in the future.
