Apex Legends: Guide to playing Caustic

To be good at Apex Legends, players need to understand each character in the game and how they play. As one of two defensive classes, Caustic relies on trickery to defeat his opponents – and with proper preparation, anyone can win with a poison expert.

Before playing Caustic, you need to unlock the character first. Caustic is one of only two Apex characters that currently need to be purchased before playing, and the player can do so with 12,000 Legend Tokens or 750 Apex Coins.

Nox Vision – Passive (passive)

Caustic’s Passive allows the character to see enemies trapped in toxic smoke. This move is most effective in narrow areas, like in small rooms, where the opponent can’t get out of Caustic’s range easily.

Only Caustic can see enemies in the smoke, so inform your teammates of their location in the smoke. Since enemies cannot see through smoke, Caustic players can use it to revive teammates or heal themselves.

Caustic is equipped with an anti-poison mask, so he will not lose blood due to his attacks. Therefore, Caustic does not lose health by other players’ Nox Gas and vice versa.

Nox Gas Trap – Q

Caustic places poison gas canisters in a small area when shot or activates when an enemy is nearby.

Traps are best used early or late game. Players can place crates in loot-rich areas or take advantage of roundabouts at the end of the game, to continuously place traps, making the opponent unable to react.

The crates take a second to activate, but when placed down, they can be picked up and repositioned. Caustic can carry three crates at once, and after using all three, the player must wait 28 seconds before placing any more. Up to six crates can be placed at a time, so the 7th crate will remove the 6th from the game.

These bins can be used to block doors from opening. Placing a trap on one side of the door prevents the player from opening the door from the opposite side. Caustic can hide traps in a building with only two entrances, block one door with a poison barrel and leave the other door open to lure the enemy in. When an enemy enters the room, Caustic can use his ultimate, closing the second door and blocking it with another poison barrel.

This tactic requires good preparation and can be easily detected by the enemy, so place the crates quickly and quietly.

Nox Gas Grenade – Ultimate

With Ultimate, Caustic throws a grenade that releases Nox Gas smoke, which has a larger range than his Nox Gas Trap. Unlike traps, grenades can be thrown at long distances.

Caustic players need to carefully plan and prepare their attacks to get the most out of their character’s skills, but they can also be used in ‘hot oil’ to escape.

Characters that combine best with Caustic include Bloodhound, which can use his ultimate to see through Nox Gas, and Life Line, which attracts enemies to one place when calling the Care Package.
