With Crypto appearing in Apex Legends Season 3: Meltdown, here are a few tips to help you get used to this new Legend.
After weeks of rumors and anticipation, Crypto is finally here in Apex Legends, along with plenty of new content in Season 3.
Crypto is classified as a Recon Legend, meaning his skill set is not used for attack or defense.
However, that does not mean the character is not strong. The character’s three sets of moves have great potential:
- NEUROLINK (Passive) – Crypto and teammates can see what the Suveillance Drone detects within 30m.
- SURVEILLANCE DRONE (Tactical) – Summons an overhead camera Drone that has a 40 second cooldown if destroyed.
- DRONE EMP (Ultimate): Activates EMP from your drone, dealing 50 damage to armor, slowing other players and breaking traps.
The power of this skill set can make the difference between winning and losing, if used correctly. Here are a few tips for promoting them in the game.
1. Drones can be detected
Surveillance Drone is not exactly a secure surveillance device, as it can be seen and heard quite easily.
When activated, it continuously makes a sound, and leaves a rather long colored trail behind as it flies – teammates’ drones are blue, while opponents’ drones are red.
2. Drones can be shot down
If an enemy drone is detected, the best tactic to deal with is to shoot it down. Not too difficult to shoot, just a few bullets is enough.
3. Drones have a hacking skill set
While in the air and controlled manually, these drones can be used to hack a number of things on the map, especially doors. You can use a drone to remotely open the door, giving it a great advantage.
4. Drones can save teammates
A little-known feature of Crypto’s drone is that it can pick up banners of fallen teammates. This can be very important, as it can incorporate the ability to open doors to save teammates before they are dealt with.
5. Following behind, after landing on the ground
The early stages of the game can be quite stressful, as everyone tries to land and find the best loot they can. However, instead of plugging in and running, you can use the drone immediately, taking advantage of Crypto’s Passive to automatically warn nearby enemies right in the area.
6. Scout ahead of the upcoming area
When the team decides to move to a new location on the map, you should scout with a Drone. It allows the player to know if an opponent is ambushed, and if so, you can flip the attack (see next tip).
7. Use EMP remotely
Crypto’s ultimate is to use EMP to deal damage to armor, slow enemies, and destroy traps. When clearing the bases on the map you want to move to, use EMP to destroy the opposing team that is already there, and then rush in and finish them off.
8. Be careful when using EMP
Obviously EMP is a strong ultimate, but needs to be used carefully as it can affect teammates. Any teammates within the blast radius when using traps, like Caustic or Wattson, will see their equipment destroyed.
9. Choose a safe location when using a drone
When controlling the drone, Crypto will have to stand still, leaving you vulnerable. Be sure to stay as hidden as possible when operating the robot.
10. Taking damage causes you to lose control of the Drone
While standing still while controlling the Drone, any damage Crypto takes will force the character to leave the Drone console. It is both beneficial and harmful.
It is beneficial because you can still escape in time if the enemy shoots from a distance. However, if the damage you take is from your teammates, like a Caustic ally’s gas trap exploding near you, then this is an extremely difficult experience.
