The first island, called Treasure Island, was opened in 1974 as a bird sanctuary. Later renamed to Discovery Island 1978 with areas for raising birds, animals and beaches for tourists. However, the park suddenly closed in 1999 and has been abandoned ever since. Over 20 years of closure, Discovery is a mystery to many, not allowing anyone in, including Disney employees.
